I love and own the core adblocker on a number of computers, and so figured I would try the vpn given the way it all integrates. This has not worked well at all.
The program crashes constantly. In about three weeks of using it I get at least one, sometimes two or three crashes a day. I use a 2019 iMac that is all up to date. It seems to happen when the machine wakes up from sleep, but also just randomly.
Second, the speed is very slow. I can’t even stream a 4k video from YouTube anymore. Without it on I can stream 4k from multiple computers and TVs at the same time. With the VPN on it chokes it so much I can’t even do it on one.
Torrenting doesn’t work. When I could even manage to connect the speeds were practically zero. Even worse, for some reason when I turned off the vpn when my torrent program was open it completely broke it. Now I cannot connect to anything even with the VPN off.
On top of all of this, the servers seem to go dead fairly frequently. My internet just stops. I would check the server status and find them all in the red.
The only part that has seem to work ok is when I use it on an iPhone. Even then, my wife has come to me multiple times and said her phone is broken. Sure enough, disconnect the vpn and it works again.
Guys, I love the adblocker. Have used it for years and sing it’s praises to others who now own it as well. This VPN though, not good. Not good at all. I’m uninstalling it everywhere at this point.
Don’t feel to bad, it’s also unusable on android especially with adguard running at the same time. Constant network instability, bunch of apps become hard to use because of it.
I agree, it’s next to useless.
The main advantage of their VPN is the perfect integration of their DNS filtering. I am not sure if this is designed with torrents and total anonymity in mind.
The other way to emulate it perfectly is to use a hardware router VPN.
It’s probably doable on windows too but a lot more technical and hairy, probably not worth the headache.
I hate to agree but this is so true, specially windows or even browser extension.
Their VPN sucks so far…better get Proton or something else. Also own several lifetime keys for adguard - saves my life on all devices, but vpn is tough…also - Russian company so vpn has a chance of being not very secure…(I mean…all vpns not very secure, because no no logs policy works…anywhere

While I don’t doubt you are experiencing difficulties and I’m not sure if it depends on the person, or they fixed the issues, it’s working great for me. Using it on both a Google Pixel and a MacBook Air. I have no problems connecting at all, and almost no speed problems. In fact it’s only 5% slower on speed tests connected vs off. Which is better then many others Ive tried.
I just signed up this week though and will say I can’t comment on using it for torrenting or streaming, I don’t personally use it for either. For general web browsing it’s been working great though.
Unfortunately have to agree with you based on my short time trying it out… Highly recommend NordVPN for those looking for a good alternative.
That being said, I definitely have high hopes for it in the future, and since I have already paid for 5 years, will definitely reevaluate over time.
I ended up switching to nordvpn then using decloudus to replace adguard
Besides slow speed and DNS bugs in Windows 11 PC. I don’t have any issue with the VPN service. It rarely crashes on my Android and Windows PC. Looking forward to improvements from AdGuard team.
Yep, I bought many years of the VPN and have been highly disappointed.
You should have tried the free version. I did and it was a no go for me.
AdGuard is good for “ad” only. It’s VPN service is like ordering fry chicken from DairyQueen. LOL. However, VPN user can use their new DNS adblocker service which I think is a great service. Wish this can make you guys less angry with the suck VPN bug. LOL
Any update on AdGuard VPN in 2023, or alternatives?
Just buy a 5$ VPS from DigitalOcean or Linode, and set up a v2ray stealth proxy. There are many YouTube videos on it. Control your privacy and security by yourself.
What I hate the most about adguard vpn is that it doesnt really allow lan access to 192.168.1.1 for example even if you add 192.168.1.0/24 in the low-level settings. The vpn is pretty much useless at that point.
Anyone upset with years of Adguard VPN ? I don’t mind buying it from you for cheap if you can transfer it to me. Thanks. I only want to use their dns service which is free for the VPN sub.
I am starting to agree, the aduard VPN was working the first day and now not at all. Keeps saying the connection isn’t secure, something about can’t connect to HTTPS
im not an IT guy and aduard isn’t easy. I think I’ll move to express VPN
I didn’t renew because they barely update their app and don’t even try to get their VPN to work on streaming services.
