both, same for me, I contacted support today.
I’m having this issue and have auto connect on, it’ll connect fine then later suddenly nothing will load. I’ll open the app and see Nord is continually trying to connect but won’t. I need to cancel the connection attempt then click the connect button again.

My surfshark subscription just ended and literally signed up to Nord for the 2 year deal and I’m starting to regret it.
Speed is amazing.
But different ISP selections along with the different IP address showing on dnsleaktest and this constant “assigning IP” is making me wanting to go back to surfshark.
I switched from Nord to SurfShark lol. You should definitely go back.
Thats why I firstly took monthly sub, even though its more pricy. I have assigning IP but on ipleak site it shows IP of NordVPN and not mine, so it seems to work, but its irritating that it shows assigning IP. Also sometimes when I try to connect to new location, the connect spinner is spinning and it takes like 30 seconds to connect sometimes. But overall seems to work mostly.
I’m gonna give Nord until next week.
Funny, after been connected to the Chicago and Dallas servers for two days, today I got 2 suspicious text messages from an usps package and some woman from god knows where 
I guess I’ll be asking for my money back soon enough
