Anyone tried ProtonVPN's new protocol, Stealth?

Anyone tried ProtonVPN’s new protocol, Stealth?

Heard that SurfSharkVPN is doing the same thing. Looks like VPN companies could be looking towards the Chinese market (and most likely Russia as well) for some extra business. But who knows how long it’ll last.

Stealth uses obfuscation to hide your VPN connection from censors. The general idea is to make VPN traffic look like “normal” traffic — or common HTTPS connections. Stealth does this by using obfuscated TLS tunneling over TCP. This is different from most popular VPN protocols that typically use UDP, making them easier to detect and block. Without going into too much detail, Stealth also establishes VPN connections in a specific and unique way that avoids alerting internet filters.

Despite these obfuscation features, the Stealth VPN protocol is also optimized for high performance and is compatible with our VPN Accelerator technology. Coupled with our lightweight internals, Stealth can achieve higher performance than older obfuscated VPN protocols that are generally built on top of OpenVPN over TCP.

If you use it in China for a long time, please use vmess or vless first.

Most good providers are using TLS now. It works OK.

They’ll never be able to compete with domestically oriented VPNs unless they do dramatic region adjusting for pricing. The RMB:USD differential is too great.

I have a feeling all the “stealth” protocols these companies offer are just repackaged shadowsocks

…for now.

Not saying it’s gonna stop (especially since it sounds like shadowsocks), but a VPN service working in the first days of its launch is absolutely not rare. What’s rare is them lasting years without the GFW catching up.

Does it? I’ve used proton for a while here, but only with wireguard TCP. Only the free service, and I cannot choose locations if I use a paid account.
Do let me know if your can change locations. I’d like to know how to do that.

There are plenty of people that would love a China VPN that is 100% reliable. Only thing I’ve ever found that comes close is Wannaflix and it’s not cheap or easy compared to a brand name solution.
