AstianGO search engine a glimpse of the renovation

AstianGO & Midori Browser

At Astian and Midori we are committed not only to lightness and speed but also to providing users with maximum privacy and transparency in web browsing, searches and more.

That is why as a commitment we are in an extreme renovation process and I am pleased to show the first images of the renewed AstianGO, much faster, safer and extremely fast. AstianGO will be the default search engine for the Midori browser.

This search engine will be open source, however it is still under development and improvements. Soon we will be making a spectacular change.

No offense, but my two cents. I feel like you guys have no direction of where to go with your products, you guys pick so many projects at the same time then either change them constantly or just drop them, and that makes me skeptic towards the future of them. It shows to me you don’t have a straight sense of direction of where to go with all your products, plus you go radio silent out of nowhere at times, where some months ago it seemed Midori and your website was abandoned with its render all over the place and blank in some areas for weeks as per a thread that was here where you were tagged and didn’t even bother to respond to clear up what was happening.

You guys need to show a better sense of direction specially in relation to Midori as well, it underwent so many changes specially jumping around engines, where you guys seem to not know what to do with it, before being what it is now, literally just Floorp with a different logo. At this point I rather use Floorp, they have a much smaller team and the main dev has a more sense of direction where to go with his project, where it seems you are just leeching from them IMHO.

huh neet an open source search engine, i only know SearX is open source, does it have its own search results or does it aggregate like SearX

This is great. Own Index search engine is the best.

your website and products raise too many questions and none of them are answered on your products page.
eg. VPN , are you using an existing provider? where are your gateways? what is the security policy etc etc… Same goes for the storage service.
There is no information to be found. Even the Who we are page does not lead somewhere

May I ask where is the old Midori, the webkit-based, unique, minimalistic browser, that’s not yet another Firefox reskin?

I certainly hope so. It is promising and I think merits using it as an alternative to kagi or yep right now, but the interface is ugly….seriously. I need a better presentation to read the results page. THANKS>

Too many companies do that. Mozilla had the same issue. Instead of focusing on making Firefox better they started creating a bunch of products most people don’t even know exist.

Mozilla Monitor

Mozilla VPN

Pocket

Firefox Relay

On a side note Firefox Relay cracks me up because Mozilla likes to tout themselves as a privacy focused company but this service routes your emails, phone calls, and texts through their services where they look at them and choose to forward it to you or not. It can also edit emails sent to you.

Just know this is why companies end up losing a bunch of money and then everyone acts shocked when they end up doing a corporate restructure and scrap a bunch of projects later.

If it’s like floorp . So does it have vertical tabs ?

Thank you for your words and we will continue to improve.

We worked on our own index and used Bing to complement it temporarily (Something similar to what I did with Brave), all very well parameterized so as not to transmit information to Microsoft, eliminating all metadata, IP, location and other parameters, to guarantee maximum privacy.

yes, more indexes please

We are still developing the VPN, first we are developing essential elements, unified Login in all services, point-to-point encryption, elimination of all metadata, among other things

For the VPN we do not use any existing provider, it is our implementation of Wireguard under our own servers hosted in the EU. Germany to be more specific.

As I said, soon we will be making a big update and many changes including a redesign and showing more information about it.

thank you for your comment, we are working on it.

midori is a fork of floorp (and calling it a fork is generous because it’s honestly just floorp with midori’s logo slapped everywhere)

neat if this project of yours can tie or beat SearX’s privacy it would be cool, considering how much better the UI looks compared to SearX, though i wonder if you would add using multiple search engines at the same time like SearX

I understand what you say but none of this information or actually more needed one is present.
eg are you keeping logs etc.
Same goes for the storage service.
These things need to be clearly stated and clarified otherwise I cannot take a product seriously . I would suggest looking at other companies to see the information provided for similar services.
People that will want to use these products will look for such information

It’s just a preview, a sample hehehe little by little we will be revealing more details I will only say that the changes that are coming will make us be on par with recognized browsers, there is AstianGO will be the default search engine for the Midori browser. Our focus is privacy, transparency and lightness. I invite you to try Midori and be one of the first to try it when it is available. https://astian.org/midori-bowser/download

Thank you for your words and advice, believe me that they are very important for us and we will express and capture it in addition to showing the code, everything you say I will pass on to my colleagues so that they can work on showing all the information and all the necessary file so that users can be informed.

Sincerely thank you very much. We will improve for you, we will improve for everyone.
