Hi hope this hasn’t been posted before. I’ve recently brought my first house and getting virgin installed today, I have ExpressVPN and been trying to find a router that I could hopefully install the app direct to it but I’m confident enough to flash the router if required. Most of the lists I’ve found seem to be just copied straight from the expressvpn website, I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations from personal experience what router they found to be the best, it’s going to be used for downloading, video streaming and gaming. Any advice would be much appreciated.
I have been using surfshark with my virgin media router. Get fantastic speeds going through this VPN.

I’m on 350/36 and get good speeds over VPN.
They do excellent guides as well and it’s unlimited devices as well.

I’ve been using pfSense for the past month with a Virgin Hub 3.0 with NordVPN and I love it. If you’re comfortable using custom firmware I’m sure you’d be fairly confident with pfSense (especially with the abundance of docs, community support and YouTube videos out there).
For me, the best thing is that I can have multiple VPN connections (on the router) to different servers. So let’s say I want all my phone’s to be routed through a US server and all my PCs to a UK server - done (I’m not sure what use case you would have for this though, maybe a P2P server and a normal one).
Just note some things may require a workaround with an active VPN connection, websites requiring a captcha verification, Netflix refusing to work and some websites outright blocking access.
You can purchase an official pfSense box from the netgate website (quite expensive in my opinion) or use an old PC to install pfSense on (my choice).
