Big websites in Brazil are increasingly blocking IPs from ProtonVPN

Guys,

It’s no surprise that most users will try to connect to the nearest server to get the least latency as possible, which means connecting to a server in the same country you are or where the website you are trying to connect to is.

I wonder if this happens in other countries too, but some big brazilian websites are increasingly blocking access from protonvpn servers, forcing the user to (a) constantly reconnect from a different server to try to avoid this or (b) connecting from a different country and suffering with increased latencies.

The images attached show some websites I tried to connect to today (2023-01-18) and were not available from Brazil #43 or three other brazilian servers (I forgot to mark the number). I also tried argentian servers, and some worked some didn’t.

What could u/Proton do on their end to help us with this?

What do you users do when this happens to you? It is becoming way too boring to reconnect multiple times before I can access a disered website…

Hi u/RemainingLeftover -- some services are unfortunately not VPN-friendly and they can block known VPN IP addresses. Try switching between as many servers as available on your plan to see if the issue persists on all of them. If you have Netshield turned on, try setting it to block malware only, or turning it off to see if this helps.

Also, if you don’t mind, please let us know which exact URLs you’re unable to access, and on which servers, so we can try to reproduce this on our end.

Also thanks u/alex_herrero for your response.

I bit the bullet and purchased youtube premium at ludicrous local prices.

That was my answer anyway.

It happens, and there’s not much Proton can do to avoid this, IMHO. Sad that companies and admins everywhere are doing this. I think freedom of choice and respecting privacy should be top priorities.

Yep. I’m not able to watch Globoplay (one of the largest streams in Brazil) in Plus servers. I’m procrastinating to send the support a message about that.

My Netshield is turned on this way already.

Regarding the URLs, they are on the screenshots already.

I mentioned one server that I remembered to take note, but the others I didn’t.

This happens quite often, so I will be updating this thread with more servers (but for testing purposes, I will stick to those URLs)

Maybe recicling the public IPs more often? I don’t know how easy this is, but I think it might help with this problem…

Thank you! We appreciate your updates.

How can I add pictures to responses? Is it possible? I have screenshots.

Well, the three websites did not open for BR#9 today (2023-01-20). Two with 403 errors (Forbidden) and one with “operation timed out”

Since you have screenshots, it would be best if you could fill out a support ticket here. That way, you can share your pictures directly with our customer support team.
