I tried rebooting my computer, my router, and my modem. I can connect to the VPN via my phone but ONLY IF I use mobile data instead of the wifi. So I think it’s something wrong with the Spectrum equipment, or maybe they’re being a bunch of jerks and blocking it all of a sudden?
we don’t block your VPN but we cannot troubleshoot it if you call. All we can troubleshoot is our service. Anything with your employer is ultimately your employer, if they have shit IT thats not our problem.
Spectrum basically doesn’t give a shit what you do over their network as long as your bill is paid.
Unless the Feds show up because you’re plotting a terrorist attack or downloading kiddy porn. Then they care.
Trust me - Spectrum isn’t doing anything to block VPNs. Especially now that a large amount of their people are using one to work from home.
I’m using VPN with my employer.
If they’re doing anything, it’s not with everyone.
Call them up.
Have you asked your IT department for help?
I can connect to my company’s VPN no problem.
My wife can connect to her work VPN no problem.
Depending on what router you have it may not be configured to pass through the protocol your VPN is using. Try using your VPN with your device directly connected to the modem by passing the router. If it works go to the routers config page and look for a section that has the pass through settings.
I’m experiencing VPN connectivity issues with my users who are on spectrum - it’s not my VPN endpoint - if I change DNS to point to my ATT circuit it works fine - same vpn endpoint. On my ATT fiber circuit I can get to it no matter what ISP I terminate it to but my spectrum users can only get to it from the ATT side. I’ve changed listening ports and that did not help - so it’s not you, it’s them…
It the modem that Spectrum provided. I had to replace the modem (and thereby eliminated a $5/month charge) and can now access my work VPN without any issue. The Spectrum modems have something about them that is a problem. Although I had better Internet speeds with the Spectrum modem, it would not allow access to my work VPN. If you buy your own modem, you will have more control over it in any event.
Spectrum has issues resolving internal dns over corporate vpns. Replace their router with your own.
OK… my Spectrum internet only works if I’m connected to a VPN. If I disconnect the VPN, I can’t load pages, even though Spectrum claims it’s all good on their end…
This is clearly a service problem. Are they blocking my IP? My wife is a student and I work from home, so when we have to load sites that don’t allow VPN this is a HUGE problem
Maybe Spectrum has not deployed software to block modems, but its new routers will not permit it. I worked with customer service to trace the issue to the router (thanks, dude) and replaced it. No more issue. Replace the $5/month router.

Actually… they seem to care a LOT because with Spectrum I can only load pages when I’m on VPN to hide my IP. If I turn off the VPN I have basically no connection.
We don’t really have an “IT department”, there are a total of 3 people at this company… talking with my boss now!
Lol notice how when you prove it’s on their end they stop responding? Classic Spectrum
Have you ruled out a DNS issue?
We don’t really have an “IT department”
Well, that sounds like your problem then.
Make sure you can traceroute to your vpn endpoint, If you can get to it and it goes to the correct location you make have issues on the backend. If you don’t and the trace fails, the route may have issues somewhere on the backend
Hah it was a blacklisted IP tied to the modem I got! Problem has been resolved
I’m trying to troubleshoot a similar problem with a corp VPN and Spectrum. Because it is only a couple of users, I think the problem is the same as yours. It’s not clear from your answer - where was the IP being blocked? Spectrum or the company VPN? I am guessing that in my case the VPN is blocking static IPs from the Spectrum router?
Spectrum had the modem’s inherent IP in some blacklist (they pay other companies for those blacklists, and apparently once in a while someone is unfortunate enough to get handed a modem with a bad IP by spectrum). It’s a numbers game and I bet they just handed that bad modem to someone else hoping it’ll become their problem to deal with. When you have a service provider monopoly you can afford not to care
