How the hell do I disable the McAfee security shit. I recently upgraded and now some random ass sites are blocked. A warning pops up and there is a button that says “continue to site” I click it and it doesn’t do shit. It also gave me a link to put into a separate chrome tab and disable something and I did it……but that also didn’t work.
Two steps:
-
Log into your router, there should be a setting and it’s not easy to find (varies by make and model).
-
Change your DNS servers to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 (or do this on the device in question).
Sorry for the lack of more specifics.
As well as switching to alternate DNS, use a VPN service.
It would be nice if there were a US ISP that would refrain from logging, spying on, and interfering with (that’s what you’re seeing, a kind of man-in-the-middle attack) absolutely everything you do on your connection, but here we are.
Unfortunately, a VPN service has become a cost of doing business in the US. I like Mullvad VPN, but there are many other good choices.
agreed, never use CenturyLink’s DNS.
