I just installed Surfshark extension on my Chrome. It was running and I started playing with the setting. After a few tries I lost connection to internet. I switched to MS Edge and it ran just fine, I can still access internet, but my Chrome is completely dead.
I tried remove the extension, restart my laptop, even reinstall Chrome, the browser just doesn’t connect. Has anyone experienced this problem? How can I fix it?
ADD: As far as I can recall. I was trying VPN from different regions. The last thing I did before losing connection was when I clicked one of the “virtual servers” or whatever it was called.
I checked into one, it popped a message of some regional restrictions. I switched to a different one, the same message popped up. I went back to try on the first few that were working, they were dead too. I then tried removing the extension, and the rest was described above.
Hi there, that is quite a strange issue you have on your hands and it might need a more in-depth look than we can provide here on Reddit. In this case, the best way to go forward would be to contact our support team at [email protected] or via live chats so they could have a more detailed look and see what can be done.
Try if this one works: open Chrome, select top right dots (settings), select something like ‘reset settings’ > ‘restore to original defaults’ > reset settings.
Thank you for all your responses. I got a reply from support. It didn’t help me but I’ll share it so those who may encounter similar problems can try:
Hey there!
I am glad you reached out.
Could you go to Check - Surfshark while NOT connected to the VPN server and check, if your IP consists only of numbers or does it include letters too (for example looks similar to this 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334)?
This information would help us check if you’re running an IPv6 address that is not currently supported by Surfshark.
In this case, it is recommended to change the connection protocol. To do so, go to the Surfshark app - Settings - VPN Settings - Protocol. Select the OpenVPN (UDP) option and try to connect.
If the issue persists, give the other protocols a try as well.
Each protocol has different configurations and port availability, so experimenting with different ones can help in resolving your issue.
You can read more about the different protocols here:
Let me know how it goes!
Have a wonderful day and I’ll be waiting for the update.
Best wishes,
Tried it. Not working. The whole browser acting like it has no internet connection.
Can you remember what you did (or tweaked) when the extension was installed? In a less fortunate scenario there may have been something changed to the registry, which requires regedit to lookup Chrome entries. Also have a look here.
Another option is to contact SS support, as they should have knowledge if the extension alters registry settings, etc, and how to ‘reset’ that.
