Command prompt error for registry deleted service?

Dear u/Daddy_Spez,

I got some malware on my computer called BrightVPN. I followed the instructions of a helpful reddit comment that suggested I officially install it before using Revo Uninstaller to wipe it out completely and get rid of any registry information.

However, when I boot up my computer I get the command prompt popping up with

cmd /C “start” “” “C:\Program Files (x86)\ VPN\ Bright VPN.exe” --silent"

The accompanying error message saying:

Windows cannot find ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\ VPN\ Bright VPN.exe’. Make sure you’ve type the name correctly, then try again.

How do I stop this from happening?

The redditors were wrong and you should have used a disinfection tool. See the wiki for recommended 3rd party removers.

If, after using these tools the issue continues, you can use this:

But I’d first find a tutorial as disabling the wrong thing with this tool could be problematic.

Thank you, thank you, thank you so much. You not only helped me find the answer, but I’m now way better equip to handle anything like this in the future - really appreciate it.
