Hi, big time fan of Windscribe (lifetime pro member) and just as enthusiastic about ControlD. Been using it for some months but I now want to get it working with Windscribe VPN instead of using ROBERT. On iOS/macOS it seems next to impossible to get these two to work together which makes no sense as they come from the same company.
Anyone here have any ideas/tips?
EDIT: took a crack at it and successfully got it working using the Windscribe app. Went a bit further and got Warp+ working with ControlD too. Nice!
Is there an option to set custom DNS? Can you explain how you got this working? And does this not somewhat compromise security if you are using personally attributable DNS ips?
There is an easy way i found out. It like download a windscribe wireguard config file. And then change the DNS of that file in the app to ControlD custom DNS. Make sure u add ipv4 & ipv6 and i added the DoT aswell in it save it and use it. But dont use config file of controlD while using it otherwise it will change the IP in controlD after every change and it will remove the IP to a new. I basically do it on a static ip of windscribe. Bcz my olx doesnt work on dynamic ip it works on static but my hulu doesnt work on static ip so with this combination of windscribe static and controlD redirection i am able to use both on static ip of windscribe.
There is really nothing to do. I just launch the ControlD app and then launch Windscribe and connect to what location I want and have no problem streaming any TV channels from UK, AU, Canada, or NZ. I’m from US and only have ControlD and Windscribe for watching TV from those countries. Works great
I’m not sure how this user did it but yes, there is an option to set custom DNS for MacOS not seeing for iOS and they do warn you that it is basically an IP Leak, but you are leaking to ControlD so I’m not 100% sure if it is a security compromise at all. I’m hoping they add a feature to link your ControlD and Windscribe so that on the backend it will see that you use ControlD and send you there instead of ROBERT
I’ll post my config a bit later but for now let me touch on the privacy point a bit. All my traffic is going through the VPN with on-demand and the killswitch enabled, I want EDNS so I benefit from the proxies (Russian Twitter for no ads, UK YouTube for the sports, US Netflix, etc) and don’t really care much about any security concerns because my threat model is very relaxed. As long as my DNS queries are 1. being sent through the VPN and 2. using DoH so Joe Sussy on the airport WiFi can’t MITM to sniff what I’m doing, I’m happy.
It just adds another layer to the security onion (the fact that I’m now piping requests over the VPN rather than being exposed) which I actually think is better, no?
I don’t like using the ControlD app.
Linking them would be a good feature across the services.
I suppose you’ve already made the decision to trust Windscribe so adding ControlD isn’t much of a leap of faith! So Russian Twitter has no ads? Any drawbacks? Cheers!
Nops no it wont use DoH it will use legacy resolver
No downsides from my time using it. It’s actually a blessing having them sanctioned.
