Cyberghost application detected as PUA.Superfluss by Norton 360

Good day,

First of all I notified support as well already.
I use Cyberghost for a while now but as of this evening it got detected as PUA.Superfluss and removed by Norton 360. I tried to exclude it but the app got broken and stopped working.
I tried to download the installer again but it got removed as well.
I already contacted Norton to warn them that this is a false positive detection but they wanted me to set up a remote session, but I am not a fan of that.

Are there more Cyberghost users who have experienced the same issue?

Update after chat with support on online site, available 24/24 everyday, it send my an older version 8.3.4.8854. Now it works again. Cyberghost team works on the issue I hope new version soon

Same issue here, but due to the high number of Cyber attacks happening lately I decided to “uninstall it” and Run a full Scan on my computer.

This could be nothing or could be a major… better be safe than sorry.

MS defender just picked this up a few minutes ago. Removed it for the time being until I get a hold of support/see if there is an update on the issue.

Oh thank god! I have this issue, and I’m glad to know it’s not just me. I’ve tried reinstalling cyberghost, but every time norton comes up with a popup saying the same thing about pua.superfluss. I thought it was because I had messed around with Norton.

Update: Now when I try and reinstall cyberghost it gets installed, but now it says that there are some missing files when I try and open it and it tells my to run the installer again, but that I still get the same error.

Update:

I just switched my laptop on and updated Norton. The app doesn’t get blocked anymore and I can use it anymore with the most recent version. However downloading the installer is still getting blocked.

Update 30 minutes later:

It’s removed again and the shortcut for Cyberghost in start and taskbar has become a deadlink. :frowning:

I contacted support and they told me to reinstall after disabling my firewall and antivirus software. Red flag :triangular_flag: !!!

Try to run live update manually once in a while to get the latest on updates. For me the app is working again with the current version.
However downloading the installer still doesn’t work.

Yeah I just got this as well. Cyberghost detected as superfluss. might or might not be a false positive. more than likely I would say. if anyone from Norton wants to reach out just drop me a message.

precise file version has MD5 checksum output as :

C:\WINDOWS\system32>certutil -hashfile “c:\Program Files\CyberGhost 8\Dashboard.exe” md5

MD5 hash of c:\Program Files\CyberGhost 8\Dashboard.exe:

167a72c3a1bc23b485230c62e839c9b0

CertUtil: -hashfile command completed successfully.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>

I also had this just happen. I ignored the profferred Exclude/Fix option but Norton keeps trying to block me

Edit: Excluding it fixed things and allowed me to run the software.

Hello, same issue I ask cyberghost for update application, please do the same. If we are many user to ask that I hope it do something. I have a license for 2 more year and I can no more used it now. If somebody has a workaround plese tell us

Same. I cant even access the support site.

I also had this happen today out of nowhere. I blocked it. I will contact CyberGhost and ask wtf?

I deleted the “s” in https on the cyberghost URL and was allowed to access the site and installer.

Mine was blocked today from Windows 11 defender!

My CyberGhost got booted by Windows Defender. I went to re-download it, but I can’t sign it. They’re not accepting my password, and the password reset page says “Internal Error Has Occurred”. Anyone else having that issue as well?

Same here, Windows security is scanning it as malware and Restoro said it’s a PUA. This is shady af, is CyberGhost safe to use still or is it slowing my PC down and turning into a virus?

It’s a false positive because windows defender especially on Windows 11 has been updated with more cloud-based AI database signatures. it doesnt like the windows privacy settings you can disable within cyberghosts app

I had the security software that comes with cyberghost detect the file cyberghostprivatebrowser-90…0 detected as malware name: pua/cyberghost.be

wtf

as much as i find computers useful i might one day no longer have anything to do with them. A person cannot take a shit without something knowing about it. Adnd if were are to the point that it needs that information also then where we are headed is a very sad place. and nobody will bother to do a thing about it because hey !! why bother!! maah

I did the same, full scan turned up fine so I’m not too worried, but I’ve uninstalled and canceled my subscription.
