Detected unusual traffic

Hi I keep getting ‘detected unusual traffic’ on safari and it only happens when I’m using my wifi and I don’t use vpn. I will do the captcha and it will just ask me to do it again. Why is this?

What do you mean by unusual traffic.

This is fine. I can trigger that warning on myself by using a busy VPN server.

You can erase your cookies/cache/temp files etc or just do a “reset browser”. Most modern browsers on computers and phones have this option.

Don’t use programs that try to scare you into paying for them like the one you were using.

To be safe, look into “hardening” your pc and browser. At the very least, use ublock origin.

Try clearing your browser cookies and history. You could also try whitelisting your ip here Whitelist Your IP with http:BL | Project Honey Pot

restart your modem/router where your wifi goes into your house. (power off, then wait a few minutes and power on) if you have a dynamic IP it will be reassigned to another one. your IP is being used for malicious reasons by another user. the startup of the modem/router might take a few minutes

How many computers on your network? Are all of them up to date including antivirus?

I get this constantly if I use my mobile network and in incognito

So yes vpn or no vpn? Your replies have me confused. If you ARE using a VPN it’s forsure that and you need to choose a different server.

First, many ISP that are using carrier grade NAT will make you share public IP with other people.

Second, i had similar problem when AdGuard / PiHole was blocking my captcha requests on a specific site.

Edit:

  1. Free public VPN IP’s are blacklisted on many sites if you wwnt your own static vpn you gotta pay for a static ip / own vpn server (protonVPN pretty good)

  2. Check what happens when you submit the captcha in browser debug. F12 in chrome (no idea about safari, maybe try other browsers?), look at Console and Network tab and see request response.

Ok OP lets make things out, how many people using your wifi? If 5-10 then it will do that. Are you using proxy? Might affect that too. If you’re having none of that then its a bug.

Just out of curiosity, system preferences>network>advanced>proxies> anything turned on here? Maybe SOCKS proxy or something like that? Also may want to consider running free scan with malwarebytes

I’ve had this issue before if my time was wrong, so I would check to make sure you’re date and time are synced.

I’m not sure. It states ‘Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your
computer network. This page checks to see if it’s really
you sending the requests and not a robot. Why did this
happen?’

And then if I click why did this happen it says:

‘This page appears when Google automatically detects requests coming from your computer network which appear to be in violation of the Terms of Service. The block will expire shortly after those requests stop. In the meantime, solving the above CAPTCHA will let you continue to use our services.

This traffic may have been sent by malicious software, a browser plug-in or a script that sends automated requests. If you share your network connection, ask your administrator for help – a different computer using the same IP address may be responsible. Learn more

Sometimes, you may be asked to solve the CAPTCHA if you are using advanced terms that robots are known to use or sending requests very quickly.’

But it happens even when not using a vpn or when a vpn is connected, does that still mean it could be the vpn?

Thanks! Yes it’s a dynamic one I checked. So will turning of the router, leaving it for a few mins and then putting it back on get rid of any malware?

Also how come it only happens now and then, like it’ll happpen maybe twice a week where it’ll do it for 2 hours or something.

Probably 3, and I don’t think so maybe 2 or 1 are.

A device using this wifi uses mkafee if that means anything to u? I’m not a tech person so not sure, I did have a vpn on but deleted the app to see if it still does it without the vpn and it did. It’s stopped doing it now but it will do it again randomly for a few hours. It’s not even as if I can just do the capchta and move on as it just asks to do it again.

I also tested it out and figured out it doesn’t do it on my mobile data, just does it on the wifi.

The thing is it only happens on my wifi for some reason, it’s stopped now but will happen again.
