I’m not willing to spend money on a vpn, but I live in the United States where you can get in trouble for torrenting copyrighted content. Normally when torrenting, you only get a letter from your ISP when the copyright holder is tracking the torrent. I don’t know if I need to worry for anime, because japanese companies hold the copyright, and I don’t know if they actually care about piracy.
The companies that license anime in the US like Crunchyroll will send those letters instead.
Same comment I made on another thread that got deleted for low effort posts (as might happen with this one as well).
Recommended, but not required. Frankly it depends on how authoritarian and/or bored your ISP is to respond to any reports. For what it’s worth, in the ~20 years and dozens of TB of data I’ve been torrenting, largely without a VPN, I’ve gotten three notices from my ISP threatening action, but no action taken. The most recent was at least a decade ago with from downloading an episode Gintama.
On the other side of the coin, a friend stupid enough to pirate Game of Thrones off of piratebay got their internet service cut for 12 hours as a “warning”. So I guess just proceed with caution.
Yeah I would get a VPN my guy. You’re in the States and piracy laws for anime is starting to get tighter. Disney is doing their own thing with anime, soon they’ll start. Don’t be an idiot and get a VPN.
Depends on isp and region
I’m in Ireland and have torrented tbs of stuff because I’m a media hoarder. Never got an email, or letter in the door. That said, whenever I sign up for a new isp contract, I let them know I work in it security so that’s why I’m downloading over 1tb of data a month. That said between streaming, downloading and hosting my own server I haven’t had an issue and really haven’t used a vpn with my ARR suite either
I’ve never had a problem torrenting without a VPN in the UK
Yes please get a VPN, I can recommend Proton or PIA
Realdebrid and Kodi with Okatu addon for a combinaton of cached torrents and DDL sites. I’m not expert enough with Anime to know if these solutions have everything but I find what I’m looking for usually. Realdebrid removes the need for a VPN.
VPN is pretty paramount in the world of piracy and torrenting.
You live in The West (ie, USA and Europe), which means its the perfecy place for copyright holders to give letters to anyone. When you torrent copyrighted materials, you are download and uploading copyright infringing materials.
You need to use a VPN and bind it to a torrent client like Qbittorrent and activite the VPN’s Kill Switch in case it goes down at any moment.
If you don’t want the hassle of buying a VPN and bind it to the client’s interface. Use stremio + Torrentio + Real Debrid subscription, as the RD acts like intermediate that acts on your behalf to deliver the content rather than the VPN it self.
Wild how they never get you for just downloading things, it has to be a torrent for the ISP to get involved… I guess they can’t fault you for clicking a public facing link??
just move to a third world country and torrent in peace
I got spectrum strike once for not using VPN and downloading family guy episode lol
No offense but if you’re not willing to get a vpn, you should probably go get a job instead of watching anime all day. What are you doing bro.
It really depends on which ISP you have. I’ve never gotten a notice from my ISP, but it’s not one of the big ones.
No you can use realdebrid
Are there any good free VPN’s then? Also, when streaming torrents on something like Miru, how do you bind your vpn to ensure you don’t get a letter?
Me personally i’ve torrented entire games movies anime anything and everything and my isp do not give half a shit
fr?
dude is it really true? I assumed UK has strict laws for it
Proton is great, served me well for terabytes of Linux isos
The paid version of Proton, right? I’ve heard the free version is ass for piracy.
