Travel esims bypass GFW so allow access to the wider web. You wouldn’t need a vpn.
However, if you connected over wifi you’d need a vpn.
If you’re using roaming data from a (e)sim from a foreign carrier, then there are automatically no GFW restrictions.

Hi, how about Wechat and Alipay from mobile through e-sim from a foreign carrier? Do they work properly? Because in my experience with Squirrel VPN you have to exclude them to run. Thanks
