It’s likely YouTube figured out the VPN workaround and patched it. Ad-blocking with a VPN isn’t as reliable anymore, especially on apps. You could use an external app like YouTube Vanced…
Yeah just download Youtube Vanced or Revanced way easier and free
Video Lite app then watch your YT through this. Brave app does the same thing 
Try a Russian or Chinese VPN
This depends on which VPN you use. Not all of them have great ad blockers…
