Been traveling in China for business for the past month. ExpressVPN only worked okay for the first a few days. Then can’t get connected via Wifi then stopped working on cellular services. Contacted their customer service, its basically they won’t do anything, here are a few free months for you, kindly try connecting again later type of BS. Their ad is misleading. Totally regretted purchasing a year worth of subscription… hope others check real people’s review on Reddit before purchasing.

I live in china. Express hasn’t worked properly since 2019. Astrill has way fewer issues. The only reliable proxy is called Shadowsocks which is a different technology from vpn. Look up some tutorials on YouTube

I feel you man, their service has shat the bed since late March. I’ve since given up trying to connect, only messaging CS at the beginning of every month to get my month’s extension which in all honesty is useless if their vpn service does not work in China.
I have since tried another service that’s been working much more consistently but it’s also kind of a pain cuz only two devices can be registered at a time, so I have to kick a device out if I want to connect an additional device. Honestly I just hope they can fix the issues at ExpressVPN but I’ve pretty lost hope since it’s already been so many months.
Same. Hope it’ll get better soon but I’m starting to lose hope and there’s no way to get a refund either…
Agree. Came home from China 30th July 2023. Signed up for a year but it did not work during the 5 weeks I was there. Same response from support. The are working on it. I can not recommend Express VPN despite all the BS they write all over internet in various tests that it works fine. IT DOES NOT. AVOID!

Been to China in June, you know what’s happened that month(I guess, wink).
So I could understand having difficulties, after reporting to the CS, they offered a month as courtesy, but to be honest it doesn’t change much, as still it’s not working.
I tried to access network via ExpressVPN in late June and July and it’s still not work.
it’s lucking that I only subscribed for a month for trying and I didn’t waste too much on this expensive service.
I am in late august here and it shows that it is connected but nothing really works.
omg I experienced the exact same issue. worked for the first few day then it decided to stop working for the entire rest of my trip. even when it do connect I get 5Mbps from a 500Mbps network. crazy. don’t buy if u intend to use in china! they also compensated me with a free month of subscription which I totally needed
I was in China three times from May, 3-5 days each time, basically Beijing and Shanghai. Expreevpn failed 90% of times on my android phone and laptop… with Chinamobile, hotel wifi, office wifi. It can show “connected” but just bogus. It only received Whatsapp plain text messages occasionally.
I am impressed of how successful it has managed to pay so many sites suggesting it “the best for China”.
Plenty just not the mainstream ones, besides Astrill
What other service did you use?
Also interested in what the other service/VPN is. Data roaming is so expensive and would much rather a VPN and local sim

I’ve been using Letsvpn for the past 3.5 months and it’s been pretty stable so far. Only annoying part is that they only allow 2 devices and you have to register your devices.
