Title says it all. VPN doesn’t have to be fast or particularly trustworthy, just want it to hide my ip when browsing junky news and social media sites on my Android phone. (also I’m not interested in VPN for entire phone, just the browser).
None that I know of, but for a free whole-phone solution you could check out Cloudflare’s “1.1.1.1” app.

Thanks, that’s what I was afraid of. At least now I know.

Thanks again, I was probably editing while you posted. It’s an interesting looking app, but a little more complicated than what I want. And while cloudfare seems very respectable, I have some trust issues inviting a VPN into the middle of my most private/secure on-line activities (Google and my ISP are probably already there but somehow I’ve already accepted that). And also my phone has netguard which I think is not compatible with vpn (they both use the same Android service).
The free VPN extensions are a lot less trustworthy than Cloudflare.
I want to segregate my activities into two buckets:
1 - trashy news surfing and anonymous social media. I don’t care if anyone in the middle reads what I’m doingt, I just want to be hidden behind a vpn so I am broadcasting less of a footprint that might come back to me in some way (maybe an attack on my ip or personal information that could be used against me if they tied it to my ip/identity).
2 - critical email and financial accounts.
With a vpn add-in I can segregate (put the vpn add-in on only one browser). With the Cloudfare I think it is all or nothing, isn’t it?
