Is the differnece that (on Windows) the client provides a webview so I do all browsing from within the app without having to use the browser to log into the network?
I would strongly suggest you reach out to you internal technical support team. Ask them for a bit of training or instructions on how to use the company VPN.
After I connect with the FortiVPN, I open a url to the corporate server from Chrome and try to access my pc with rdp but I always get ‘connection closed’ error. They told me to use the FortiClient because as it seems there’s ‘issues’ with using the browser. Does this sound plausible?
Actually I make the VPN connection over SSLVPN.After it connects I open the browser and navigate to a url which is where the Forti Server server is hosted.I connect with the Forti username/pass and on the next screen I enter my pc’s details of the internal network to connect over RDP (windows 10 machine). The machine can be found because in the beginning I had enterd an invalid private ip and the error I was getting was ‘connection failed’ . After I’ve used the correct ip I’m getting ‘connection closed’ .
See the Debug Flow output link in the sidebar, that’s generally the best first step for troubleshooting.
I’m still not sure if you’re describing tunnel-mode or web-mode. Both are SSLVPN. Tunnel-mode is with a dedicated client (FortiClient or FortiClient VPN) and Web-mode is just through a browser. Either way it sounds like a policy/routing/nat issue, which the di de flow will help troubleshoot.
