Hi What should I do I got copyright claimed for torrenting a game

I torrented Warhammer 2 a game from Fitgirl repack and then received a Notice of Action under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). From my isp Comcast claiming that
“OpSec Online Antipiracy [email protected]” have reported me.

What should I do? I uninstalled Deluge, I’ve already received this email would it be too late to get a VPN? Should I just ignore this warning and not download anything until I have a VPN? Right now I have no torrenting program on my pc just the game I installed.

I’m stressing out a bit about this warning email.

Edit: Thank you all so much for the help!

First thing to do is take a deep breath, you are fine. I have gotten these before and they are just scare tactics. No body is gonna bust down your door or sue you. Second thing to do, if you are going to continue using torrents then you need a VPN. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. If not then you can still use fitgirl, just do not use the torrents, use the direct downloads she provides. They are a little more work but your ISP aint gonna you emails about it

i have literally thousands of these emails over 15 years. just ignore them they’re just trying to scare you.

edit: there are exceptions to this in some WhiteQaeda, Waliban, WISIS states in the US that have “3 strike” rules on internet piracy. google your regional laws. in most places warning emails are irrelevant.

As far as I know it’s just a scare tactic in the USA but don’t take my word for it

Flee the country. By now they have the entire police force on your ass. Keep an anonymous profile, stay at a friend’s house and always have something to cover your face. A regular face mask works. Change your name as fast as possible. Destroy your hard drive and burn credentials, burning your entire house would be far too conspicuous. You need to run away, if you’re in the US you can go to Canada or Mexico by car. Don’t use a plane. Preferably change your license plate or have a friend drive you. Always have a self defense weapon. Try and pay off a crackhead to start pissing on people to get the attention of the law and get a head start.

Stop reading this, I hope it’s not too late now. GO!

Nothing. There are people with 1000+ claims. I know someone personally with over 100 claims and I’ve had a handful myself throughout the years.

It’s supposed to scare you but they usually dont take any action

First of all, it depends on which country you are in. Because in my country India, Everyone pirates, even police have pirated windows copy. So we have no fear except viruses and malware.

But as you got DMCA notice, that means you are being monitored. So stop pirating for now. Invest in a good VPN. Also don’t seed anything at least for now. I hate those who don’t seed but your case is different. And don’t stress out! You may ignore the warning, don’t try to contact them because that makes you a vulnerable target of Antipiracy.

So calm down and keep a low profile.

Edit: Always use TOR browser for every sketchy thing. It has a strong built-in VPN which allows you to get everything, legal or illegal but keeps you anonymous (mostly, don’t do any dangerous things).

Edit2: As people said, don’t use Tor for Torrent. Do direct download from the links mentioned in the megathread. So I am mentioning what I do as alternate of torrent:

  1. Go to those direct download links (I am not mentioning them).

  2. Download Mega and then downloaded 5GB parts completely.

  3. Extract and install.

  4. Apply crack and enjoy.

Edit3: Damn TOR controversies! Forget whatever I said in Edits. I am not removing them, but forget it. The main answer is before edits only.

The notice is just a warning. Worst that can happen is your internet being cut off if you keep getting DMCA notices. It depends on the ISP though.

Get a paid VPN and make sure you’re always using the VPN while torrenting. Most VPNs have a kill switch and you can set qbittorrent to only use your VPN “adapter”.

It’s none of your ISPs business though

You don’t need to take the warning too seriously, but it does mean that your ISP knows you’re pirating.

If you keep pirating and they catch you again, they may shut down your internet until you call them and promise not to pirate anymore.

If you ignore the warning :warning: THEY won’t bother sending any mails to you. THAT s just a protocol on there part to tell you that you are downloading something illegal. They sent me that whenever i switch to a new isp. First few emails are mandatory on there part to do there formalities. Just ignore it. They will stop :stop_sign: emailing you ONCE there autmated systems are done sending them. Its not the Old 2000s 90s where you were sued by companies for downloading song. The company is todays… world will never go after individual pirates. Its waste of time and resources. So, chill and do whatever you feel like.

I consider those junk mail. They have no idea whether I have a licence to use media or software or not.

Make sure to read the stickied megathread, as it might just answer your question! Also check out our videogame piracy guide and the list of Common Q&A part 1 and part 2. Or just read the whole Wiki.

Honestly I think you should be completely fine depending on the country. I leave my PC seeding/downloading all the time and I get these notices from my ISP. I always just ignore them and keep doing my thing.

TL;DR: Ignore the letter and enjoy your content. If you don’t want to have your internet turned off or continue to get letters in the mail, you really should invest in a VPN. You’ll save yourself so much headache just by investing in a quality VPN.

I would flee the country. Maybe buy a wig to disguise yourself? And a wig cap to keep the wig from falling off.

Submit to your overlords. Give penance to your gods. Beg for mercy at the feet of… no wait wrong script. Just use .

Use a vpn and don’t do it over Tor, problem solved

Get different ISP i did the same

I wouldn’t trust an email. Wait for a letter to arrive.
