How create OVPN file for a dedicated IP?

I have purchased the dedicated IP add-on which I need, PureVPN only supply setup instructions for a Windows setup!

I am trying to setup the dedicated IP on an obscure router, tech support straight off “we don’t support that router”… I don’t need them too, im more than capable of working my router. But I can’t see how to point the VPN setup to my dedicated IP. I have it working just fine on the generic PureVPN servers using the supplied OVPN files.

I opened the file in textedit and see there is a line with the remote server:
remote ukl2-ovpn-udp.pointtoserver.com 53

My question is how to either edit or create a new OVPN file that points the VPN service to use my dedicated IP? They sent my both a server address and an personal IP address, how or where do they go in an OVPN file?

Thanks

You should first experiment on your computer by installing OpenVPN GUI (.ovpn files ring a bell?) Once you get it working there, it should be exactly the same config file for your router.

I’m not aware of how this addon is enabled using just OpenVPN if its not automatic.

Did you find an answer to this that wasn’t pptp. I know they aren’t going away with it (yet) but I’d like to just use OpenVPN because I don’t want everything behind the router to have it

Hey, u/EuromirLee, we do offer guides for setting up dedicated IP on various OS, you can learn more about it through here.

As for the dedicated IP, I’m sorry it’s not supported with OpenVPN at the moment. But you’re more than welcome to share this feedback here for our dev team to consider.

I will look into it, thanks

Im not using an OS, its a router so again, support advice of no use…
So what method other than OpenVPN can I setup my dedicated IP on my router then? My router supports a plethora of VPN options.

Else I be expecting a full refund on all services, as I have zero use for PureVPN if I can’t have my dedicated IP on my router, which on the face of it seems perfectly simple?

PS your link doesn’t work anyway, try the last two options, they just take you to a generic support hub… !!

You can use the PPTP protocol to set up the dedicated IP on your router.
We have a thread on this subreddit with all the supported routers (available on the website as well).

Thanks for highlighting this, we’ve escalated it to be fixed asap!

supported routers

I heard that was discontinued? ok I take a look

These are not routers offered by PureVPN but these are just a list of the most common routers that are supported with PureVPN. If you’re existing router has PPTP then you should be able to configure PureVPN.

supported routers

It does support PPTP yes, but of course not in your list, so I will have to experiment.

Im confused you say should be ok using PPTP, but I follow links and get:
NOTE
Starting June 15th, 2021, PureVPN will discontinue offering support for PPTP, L2TP, and SSTP protocols on the majority of VPN locations.
However, at the popular request of our users, we will continue to support the following locations for users to connect using PPTP, L2TP, and SSTP protocols:
Germany: de1.pointtoserver.com
Netherlands: nl1.pointtoserver.com
United Kingdom: ukl1.pointtoserver.com
United States: usil1.pointtoserver.com
United States: ustx1.pointtoserver.com
United States: usca1.pointtoserver.com
United States: usfl1.pointtoserver.com
United States: usny1.pointtoserver.com
United States: uswdc1.pointtoserver.com
Australia: au-sd1.pointtoserver.com

So as they are server addresses, how does that work with my Dedicated IP please?

Sorry for the delayed response.

We recently planned on discontinuing these protocols. However, after months of back-n-forth communication with our users, and due to popular demand, we have held back these protocols on selected servers.

In your case, you should be able to connect to your dedicated IP using the PPTP servers (the above server list is dynamic).

I want to connect to my dedicated IP from linux (pi) command line. How do i get a pptp or openvpn config file to connect to my, specific IP?

Thank you for reaching out. To provide you with the appropriate guidance, please share your email address with us through direct message (DM). We will use that information to assist you effectively.

Thanks got help from support; good to note here that I received ok and it works perfectly on pi
