I’ve always how VPN providers handle Abuse on their network. Windscribe doesn’t log user activity, what would they tell the authorities if someone did something illegal using Windscribe? Are they forced to give out potentially identifying information?
Let’s say someone would sell Dr*gs online illegally and uses Windscribe. The authorities just know the criminal is using Windscribe and is connected to let’s say Switzerland servers. The authorities get in contact with Windscribe, what does Windscribe do?
Btw, I can imagine this topic is hard for Windscribe staff to answer. I don’t expect an answer in case that information is too sensitive to share publicly. A simple “Can’t tell for security reasons” would soothe my curiosity.
Windscribe must and will comply. If they refuse, they face legal troubles. But here’s the catch, they comply empty handed.
Nothing forces them to keep logs or a law as a VPN company in Canada to bend over backwards and start doing so.
Hmm interesting. I’m not a Cybersecurity specialist but how can someone trace you back without having your actual IP? I know each browser has its unique footprint but is that information sufficient to trace someone back?
IP addresses are small peanuts compared to the rest of it, honestly.
It’s a full investigation. Wired had an interesting series about it a few years ago.
It’s also a few years old so there is probably other newer technology now. Furthermore I would hazard a guess that they did not reveal everything for the article.
