Hey /u/Cubiky_Cube, I have/had the same issue.

I still haven’t managed to remove some services related to this program because it somehow manages to install itself in a way that makes it very hard to remove it, but the files are deleted and it’s not able to run the services any more.

  • Find the Process in the task manager (It was listed under “Reason …[something something]”)
  • find the folder that contains the process’ exe from the context menu (should be %ProgramFiles%\RAV)
  • kill process exe with Process Hacker 2 (only thing that worked for me, everything else was “access denied”)
  • delete folder that contains it, need to be relatively quick before the service restarts but it was possible to do it manually in my case

The folder also had an uninstaller in it, but that didn’t do anything in my case.

Someone might need to step by step this for me. Cause I’m losing it trying to get rid of this parasite

Did like many here and downloaded Process Hacker 2.

Once downloaded, open as administrator. Type Reasonlabs in the search bar. It shows you all of the open processes. I highlighted all of them. Right clicked. Hit terminate.

Made sure I had the folder open that has Reasonlabs. You find this by opening up the regular task manager, finding reason labs and opening up file location.

Right after terminating the Reasonlabs processes in Process Hacker 2, delete the Reasonlabs folder. It should delete it all.

This worked for me

The cause of this issue for me was from RAV VPN which I don’t recall ever installing. Uninstall the program and you should be fine.

You can pick up this shitty bundle of software when you install cheat engine. These programs were no where to be found before I installed it to mod ghost recon. Make sure to look for all of their programs, RAV VPN, RAV antivirus or something similar, and SaferWeb. I found the uninstaller pretends to uninstall everything but keeps all of the processes on your computer hidden, you can remove them by going into task manager right clicking on one of the RAV processes and going to file location. You wont be able to delete them right away because you need to task manager the processes since windows doesn’t like deleting things while their running in the background, Make sure to delete everything.

Shitty program, by a shitty company. I had to uninstall this on my friend’s computer, steps below:

  1. Restart Windows in Safe Mode
  2. Open the Reason Software folder and delete everything
  3. Restart Windows

That worked for me, because the processes of that shitty program did not initialize in Safe Mode, preventing it from giving the message “unable to delete because the file is being used and blah blah blah”

Hope it helps someone

This stuff came from Cheat Engine. It wasnt on the old versions but on the newer ones. I had to full reset my system in order to get rid of it, because the Process Hacker was blocked by it.

Late to the party but I wanted to share what I did in case anyone else needs to get rid of this thing

Most people are suggesting Process Hacker but I managed to do it with just task manager and windows uninstall.

I first just uninstalled RAV from the windows programs list but its the only one there and I still saw the base process that forced its ads on me running after the uninstall, so I right clicked it to open file location to find the ReasonLabs main program file. From there I used task manager to slowly delete it major folder by major folder (there were 3 for me, DNS VPN and Commons) while making sure to force stop the processes using them with task manager

It took a while too because not all were labeled under ReasonLabs, some were just strings of characters but they still had their purpose in there (like the ones for DNS had DNS in them, etc) except for one sneaky one which was labeled Safer Web which was kind of hiding itself separate from the others while still preventing me from deleting everything.

It was definitely a battle because the processes kept restarting themselves but thankfully it took some time so i was able to wrestle them down long enough to delete their files and finally kill the hydra

Maybe I’m a bit late
But this is the step by step of how it worked for me:

  1. Directly uninstall: Open the “Reasonlabs” folder, then “Commons”, go down and find “uninstall.exe” and run it
  2. Once uninstalled, open your task manager and end everything related to it. In my case, the “access denied” message finally didn’t pop up
  3. Go to your filles, and delete the “ReasonLabs” folder.
  4. Restart your computer. In mine, the program is gone.
This worked for me, hope it works for you

Had the same issue but it was a pretty easy fix, Open task manager and search reason labs, open its file location, Close the software, then in the file location move it to trashcan and then clear bin

If someone is struggling, I made a video on how to fix it: https://youtu.be/4qSVNut2zTg?si=gWbkOIJ5d1TDbaFO

Here’s how I solved it (thanks to everyone who inspired this solution):

  1. Open task manager
  2. Go to processes
  3. Search “Reason” - should display some short named processes (i think it was ~7 in my case)
  4. Right-click on any of them → Properties
  5. Note down the location
  6. Restart windows in Safe-Mode. For this, hold shift and click on the normal restart-button in windows, wait, click troubleshoot, click set restart options, wait, press F4 for Safe-Mode.
  7. Open explorer and go to the noted folder - step one level higher in folder hierarchy - then delete that whole ‘Resonlabs…’ folder
  8. Restart windows
  9. Install BCUninstaller (or use portable version)
  10. Use it to remove the remaining s of the services - I identified them by install date, but searching for ‘reasonlab’ should display the relevant remainings

EDIT:
11. Restart windows and go to windows defender - it should work normally again

Hope it helps!

unfortunately this software now blocks downloading process hacker, probably to avoid being deleted. someone else mentioned it, but alternatively, booting into safe mode first THEN deleting the files manually should work.

in case you don’t know how, here’s how you can boot into safe mode on windows 11:

open start menu and hold shift while pressing restart

once rebooted go to troubleshoot > advanced options > startup settings > restart

boot into safe mode by pressing 4 (without terminal or network worked fine for me)

navigate to C:/program files and delete the reasonlabs folder. it should allow you to now delete the folder without any issues.

empty recycle bin

restart again, and it reasonlabs should be gone for good. all of these processes no longer appear in taskmanager for me. hope this helps.

I stumbled upon this post whilst trying to figure out what this is. To get rid of it, I first deleted all the files possible from the file location and then shut down down as many processes and was able to get rid of some more files. There were two tasks that were access denied when i tried to shut them down. To get rid of them, I booted windows into safe mode (Hold the Shift key while clicking Restart from the Shut down or sign out menu. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings >Restart. After the PC restarts, there is a list of options. Select 4 or F4 or Fn+F4 (following the on-screen instructions) to start the PC in Safe Mode.) to make sure the thing doesn’t run at all and then deleted the entire file location. After that I’ve seen no sign of it. Hope that helps anyone who encounters it.

NOTICE:

*It’s possible to get this program from installing ‘Cheat Engine’ (How I got it.)*

There are others who’ve posted guides to uninstall this.

General:

1)Find File location

  • Open TaskManager, search “Reason”, open the file location and note where it is (pin to quick access)

[This PC\User\ProgramData\Reasonlabs] Could be different

  1. [IMPORTANT] Restart in safe mode

3)Delete ENTIRE ReasonLab folder, empty recyclebin

  1. [IMPORTANT]

Still in safe mode, Install a program to delete leftover files

-I used BCUinstaller “Bulk Crap Uninstaller” (Portable version),

open the program and search “Reason”

-Delete EVERYTHING from ‘ReasonLab Publisher’

5)Restart PC (May need to redelete ReasonLab folder)

-Open task manager to double check

NOTE:

You NEED to use SAFE MODE to prevent the automatic startup of ReasonLabs and “access denied” error.

Spend the 10-20 minutes restarting your pc in safe mode and save yourself days or even weeks of headache

Gonna throw my hat in here for the algo

So I downloaded a video downloader which is what I believe dropped this guy on me. I went to uninstall the RAV (whatever) and got rid of it. But even after the uninstall the files were stuck on my computer. However I did the task manager option and by ending most of the tasks I was able to neutralize/delete almost all of the files. Now I’m stuck with the EPP folder and the rsWSC in the task manager. Trying to end this one prompts a access denied pop up. I’ve been reading through this thread but I just wanna make sure any other step I take doesn’t brick my computer lol

To all The Peeps in the Future, As someone Who suffered With this Problem.
I tried the deleting the folder Program files/ Program Files (X86) or hidden folder program data in file explorer (forgot the Exact Location as it isn’t on my pc no more ^^) and / Force Stopping the Application In task Manager. it somewhat worked…

The Fix That Worked Well For me and completely Got rid of this Glorified Malware without Installing something else Was to Boot My PC into ‘safe mode’ (plenty of clear instructions online elsewhere or Example A )

Once Booted into Safe Mode Delete The Required Files Without Issue as it never would have booted and start running in the first place!

I use Safe Mode to Delete Files I can’t delete even as an Admin of my Desktop but after seeing reason labs still freeloading in my task manager after accepted Defeat using this method Quickly Fixed any problem I had

Hope this Help you Guys ^^ like the many reddit posts before me

I couldn’t even find it in programs to deinstal it

Get Process Hacker 2

Start it as admin!

Mark all after looking for “reason” and making sure all of it is part of that malware. Having the folder open where it’s installed, because it will restart itself after a few seconds.
