You can buy a VPS and install your own VPN server on it. Serverhunter is a good place to start. It will definitely cost less and you can even let your friends and family use it. You’d need ‘some’ technical background to select a good VPS plan but the rest is really easy. I’m sure good Samaritans here can help you pick a good one.
You’ll have to decide if you need an unlimited data plan or not. Which country would you like as your gateway? Would you like to have the cutting-edge Wireguard or would OpenVPN make do? If you like what Wireguard offers, you’d better pick a KVM slice.
