Is it OK to keep the VPN on all the time?

Is keeping the VPN 24/7 Connected a bad thing? I am on a situation where i have to keep it connected 24/7. So i want to know if it’s okay, or should i disconnect from it after a selective amount of time?

Please help.

Why wouldn’t it be ok?

This is actually the ideal scenario to have your VPN connected at all times.

I have our pfSense system configured to always be connected to Torguard, a couple VPS’s, GCP nodes, and a few friends & family are always connected to our system via incoming VPN for at least split tunnel DNS. Works great. No data cap symmetric gigabit fiber ISP connection makes things a lot easier.

Yeeet. Make sure to turn on kill switch

Yes, it has no harm, but it may causes some problems. Your device battery may drain noticeably quicker while VPN on. The VPN may slow down your connection speed or your device. Some online services may require your real location. However, if you want to keep your online privacy and security all the time, you can keep a device always on a VPN and it is safe.

When I’m not at the computer I disable the LAN adapter but keep the VPN running.

It is completely fine, in fact it is the preferred way to use a VPN.

If you are connected during a law enforcement action against the provider, it’s almost the same as not having a vpn at all.

Also some don’t let you send emails

i felt something’s got to do with that timer on how much hours i was connected to the VPN

Great. How to do this? Is there any tutorial?

Naaah the law enforcement won’t be able to se what you search even if they contact your provider, while you are on vpn your provider can see your VPN connection because it recognizes an unfamiliar IP address. However, it cannot see anything specific about your online activity, like your search and download history or the websites you visit.

If you live in an oppressive country, it will throw up some red flags

The better VPN’s have a mixed mode for those situations.
