Is This Service Impossible To Cancel?

A few months back I got charged for the renewal. I thought I’d canceled it so I emailed support and asked for it to be canceled and refunded. They tried some retention tactics, which I understood, but still canceled and refunded me.

Then I got a second charge half a month later. Emailed them again and they refunded and canceled after 3 or so emails.

I just got another charge and I emailed them again. This time they’re claiming it was done through Yahoo and they can’t control that subscription but I didn’t purchase the subscription through Yahoo originally and NordVPN sent me a receipt directly and charged my card directly. In my account under billing they have my card.

Has anyone dealt with this much frustration trying to cancel? There isn’t any way to delete my payment information and disabling auto renew doesn’t seem to help. I just want to permanently cancel my subscription and get my money back. This is starting to feel like fraud and is enough for me to never recommend them to anyone else.

UPDATE:

Customer service refuses to refund the charge, claiming that their terms of service allows only 2 refunds and that the charge was done manually. I’ll be disputing the charge.

There was a post almost exactly like this here earlier this week. Not looking forward to when my sub runs out now haha. IIRC the other poster ended up having to switch to a different payment card that had no money on, so they couldn’t take any more.

Get a prepaid card for 20 bucks and swap your card info. Cancel and it won’t be able to charge shit.

Is there an option to delete the payment info? Or only replace with prepaid card.

This is sad. I’m pretty happy with NordVPN, very reliable for me, but if I ever do decide to cancel, this would make me mad too. They are really damaging their reputation by using such unprofessional billing tactics.

Reminds me of that old joke… what’s the difference between a lawyer, a hooker and nordvpn?

My renewal payment was not due till the 26th of this month, and I have it documented. They tried to bill me yesterday for it. I’m done with Nord at this point.

I had a very similar experience and there seems to be a lot of others who have. We need a wiki on how to properly cancel. I talked to a mod about it and they agreed. Now to find out what the proper cancellation is…

I have a 3-year subscription and the contract expires this year in a few months. I turned off auto-renewal and, when checking on the website (Billing->Payment Details) it only says it was paid with credit card, but for some reason I can’t find any card info stored. Can everybody else see their credit card details, and if you do, where exactly? I’m also getting worried because I don’t want to renew the service when the subscription runs out (mostly due to shady practices like this).

Buy using Bitcoin, they won’t be able to renew it without your consent

So on my Nord Account I have disabled auto renewal. That’s all I need to do right? Right?

Contact your card issuer and revoke the subscription. When you pay initially the authorisation that Nord takes is a subscription which means that they can take any sum repeatedly. You can either attempt to get Nord to cancel or you can withdraw their authority to take the money in the first place.

If they already have your card info, getting a new card number is also a good idea, so even if they charge your old card, they can’t, its not connected to you anymore. Nord is super shady, Expressvpn seems much more legit

My technique to cancel NordVPN was to pay it with a debit card (N26) which I am not using anymore and had very little money on it. My subscription was supposed to be renewed in 20 days but they still tried to process the payment 20 days before the actual date! Fortunately, I didn’t have money on my card so payment was cancelled and I then cancelled the automatic renewal. Fuck them for those shady practices.

The card that I paid with got lost and i needed to cancel it. I’m cool with that happening now

Same bullcrap here, paid for a single month (luckily as i did have longer before), found out today all of a sudden it was billed again even though i never gave them any permission to do so.

Contacted support, who dont give a crap and wont fix it.

So they can stick it where the sun doesnt shine, ill do it through my bank and they can say goodbye to me as a customer. Account deletion is already set in motion.

Scummy practices.

Glad I only have an expired credit card on file with them. I might look into ExpressVPN instead when my subscription runs out.

I’m beginning to think it’s just straight fraudulent business. I’m not sure how they could refund me only to charge me again days later.

If you are in a gdpr country just ask them to delete your acc and info after gdpr guidelines via email.

They will very likely preserve your payment info for a few years after laws but should have no legal leg to charge anymore.

That was I! They even tried to charge me again claiming that “adding a new CC opens a new subscription”. Nord is scum.

Exactly. Or use Amazon payments or PayPal and cancel the recurring payment on their end.

I read they charge you again in some cases it you swap your cc…
