This evening I got back from work and wanted to watch some anime on Netflix. I turned on ExpressVPN and connected to Tokyo. I booted up my Netflix Windows app and to my surprise, I couldn’t find One Piece and Dr.Stone. I have literally seen these titles on there yesterday on the Japanese version.
I then tried the ExpressVPN app on my phone and tried the same, with the same result. Then I tried connecting to a different Japanese city (Yokohama) which also didn’t work.
I tested to see if maybe something was up with the VPN itself, so I connected to Canada. I searched the Office and yep, it was on there. The Office isn’t on my actual version of Netflix (Dutch version) so I know the VPN did its work.
Considering I am experiencing this on 2 different devices, and the fact that I saw titles yesterday I can’t find anymore kinda tells me the problem isn’t in one device. Could it be an account issue or is there maybe another reason?
I’m having the same exact problem. It was working completely fine yesterday, but when I tried to look for Go Toubun no Hanayome and Dr. Stone today, they wouldn’t show up
is it showing you only netflix originals? Netflix just hides the titles when they detect your vpn, so to bypass that you just need the direct link to what you want to watch, which is super easy to find just by googling. I hope it helps!
I actually contacted support about this yesterday too about the same issue- they were nice about it but couldn’t actually promise any answers aside from asking me to try again in a few days. seems like Netflix must’ve added the expressvpn IP range to some sort of blocklist so we’re unable to access the Japanese content. The US stuff works ok for now, however.
That’s really strange. But, you can always check in which other countries there is a tv show/film that you wanna watch. And then try to connect there through the VPN of your choice. Dr. Stone, for example, is available in Japan, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand with english subtitles.
I’m having the exact same issue here. Two days ago I was just watching a really old anime via Netflix (so I could read the subtitles in Japanese - straight dialogue is too fast for me) and today when I flipped ExpressVPN back to one of the Japan servers it just kicks me back to the US content library.
I’m not familiar with the first but I also wasn’t able to find Dr.Stone today, while I literally watched it yesterday using the VPN to connect to Japan
Its very odd, are you sure that the Japanese version doesn’t work? Because i did manage to find a lot of stuff, just not things like One Piece and Dr.Stone
Thank you! I did try this yesterday and found One Piece. I selected the option in Unogs to watch it on Netflix (Japan). I only got the possibility to get reminded for it
