So I bought a fire stick in December and life got busy, now I need to find it but I want better options for just watching movies and tv shows. I use to use kodi about 5+ years ago and a friend told mine said I need to get a vpn as Canadian internet providers are cracking down. But now I’m seeing streamio, real debrid, buying foreign boxes….

What do I need to get to just watch a lot of movies and shows on my tv preferably for free?

If you’re just getting back into streaming, here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Kodi – Still works, but addons can be hit or miss.
  • Stremio – Easier than Kodi, with addons that pull from multiple sources.
  • Real-Debrid – Paid, but gives you way better links (higher quality, less buffering).
  • VPN – A good idea in Canada since ISPs have been cracking down on certain streaming sources. It also helps with privacy and unblocking content.
  • “Foreign boxes” – Usually just Android boxes with preinstalled apps. You can do the same with a Firestick.

Stremio + a VPN is a solid setup. If you want better quality, adding Real-Debrid is worth it.

Stremio with torrentio and RD is all you need

Standalone apps do everything easier and better these days than Kodi builds.

Flix Vision and Onstream for movies/tv shows. Streamfire for live TV. Sportsfire for live sports. SmartTube for ad-free youtube. All free.

First unlock your firestick and install the Downloader browser using this procedure. Downloader is needed to sideload apps, and can use numerical “short codes” as shortcuts. Then put short code 28907 into Downloader, which will take you to the page you can install the above apps.

That’s for 1080. If you want 4k you’re pretty limited to getting a paid real debrid account. Stremio is probably the best front end for real debrid.

As a Canadian, IPTV is almost the only way to get all the Canadian team NHL games and also CHL games.
Real Debrid or Premitize are the go to’s for most movie and shows apps as you will get many more better quality streams. A VPN is really only needed for an IPTV service.

I have a fire stick. I use it to watch live tv on the tvapp and tvpass. I have a $20 ONN box that I have Kodi loaded on for movies, streaming, binge watching etc. I’m happy, more importantly my family is too

When I’m watching tv on the fire stick on my 2 75”+ tv is real light I can hardly see it. I have it on my other tv that are 40” and they play Crystal clear.

I use Tivimate and playlists found on Facebook that bring thousands of free live TV, on demand TV & on demand movies.

My experience, i live in Scarborough Ontario, started using Stremio+Torrentio+RD a few days ago. I promise you once you start using it you’ll never want to use anything else. Get Real Debrid (RD) it acts as a vpn in simple terms and it makes watching everything smooth, if you dont have RD it’ll be a nightmare. The price for 1 month of RD is $5 and some change. You’re paying way less than any Netflix or any other streaming service. For $5 a month you’re getting all the movies and shows you want with no buffering. Before I tried stremio I was using Beetv and other apps as I wanted to watch for completely free. It honestly was a nightmare, the movie or show would stop in the middle or buffer. I would have to exit the app and restart everything just to watch a 30 min show. Did my research and found the setup I’m using. You won’t regret it I promise you. Canadian, Toronto Ontario. I would recommend Kodi with an RD subscription, this should solve the movies/TV shows part for you. You do not need a VPN as Kodi acts as the ‘Torrent downloader’ and basically you are playing online media files using a media player (Kodi). My IP has never been picked up or reported. You will get excellent quality media and it will even work with your home entertainment system (DTS, HDR+, DV, etc). You will need to spend time to set it up.
Alternatively you can download Stremio +RD which would be much easier but lately i see the quality of streams is kinda iffy. I don’t have this issue with Kodi.
For love TV get a Strong 8K subscription from Z2u and set it up on Tivimate or there is an app by 8k that works as well. It will cost you $35-50 for a year’s subscription. If you want to it easier, get a subscription from IPtv reseller in toronto, normally $10 per month. Cherrs!

Fellow Canuck, u need Stremio combined with a debrid service (Stremio and its addons are free but the debrid service is a few $$ per month but worth it). Thats for movies and shows. It also has a live TV addon but i haven’t tried it so cant say. For TV IPTV with TiviMate is the best way to get everything u need.
Use this guide from Viren to properly set up Stremio. Take it step by step and u won’t be disappointed .

Without RD, you’re torrenting and should use a VPN. RD means no VPN, as well as cached files that often means instant streaming
