MullvadVPN or LetsVPN?

I am moving to Shanghai soon and I wanna know: which one is better? AstrillVPN is really too expensive for me to pay since I can’t pay the annually plan and the monthly plan isn’t a good choice either lmao, so I’m looking for good and cheap options. I have an iPhone, if that matters. [I read that some VPNs may work differently depending if you have iOS or Android]. Thanks!

I’m using Mullvad regularly on my iPhone. Works well for my purposes. Surfshark was too inconsistent for me.

LetsVPN has a dumb automatic ban system that could ban you if you’re downloading alot in a short time, and customer support don’t help. I can’t recommend them at all because of that.

On Mullvad at the moment and it’s been great.

I’m using Android.

Just started using Surfshark (over the weekend). Works well with all of my (3) mobile devices.

Connection on my laptop works on and off.

I’ve been using let’s vpn at my iphone and ipad. It’s better than astrill imo (just for iphone and ipad, i don’t have macbook so i can’t answer if it’s good at macbook or not, astrill still performs better at my laptop compared to let’s vpn). You might want to consider sharing astrill account with 4 other people to lower the price down.

Just get shadowrocket and find a decent provider. You can get 100GB/month for $1.

AstrillVPN is really too expensive

but also

I have an iPhone

If you read the history of this forum, sometimes they work, sometimes they dont… just try one and move to the other if it stops working.

I used several VPNs when living in Shanghai and honestly found Mullvad to be the most reliable for getting around the firewall, especially on iPhone.

LetsVPN is decent too but I ran into more connection issues during my time there. Mullvad was super consistent once configured properly and not too expensive if you do the yearly plan.

I know you mentioned not wanting to pay for a full year upfront though. In that case, you could look into proxy solutions that offer residential proxies and VPNs specifically for sites like Instagram, Netflix, etc. Less flexible but works well if you only need access to certain sites.

I’d say go with Mullvad if you want a full-featured VPN for daily use. Gets you past the firewall without breaking the bank. But consider some proxy options too if you only need access to specific blocked sites.

I use both, backing up each other. I also paid for Astrill for an year but it’s been unreliable and slow recently.

Is it ok on your laptop as well?

Which server and settings were you using? Mullvad is incredibly slow for me, borderline unusable. And I just got to China

Julien Pepe Onzima. Why are you gay? Who’s gay? Do you perform the natural obligations?

Really? I read so many people saying SurfShark isn’t worth it lol Thank you so much!

Yes, and on my desktop. It’s effective on all for just one subscription.

I’m regularly using the French and German servers more rarely Ireland. All settings on auto.

Well, it’s working for me.

I’ve been paying for data roaming for the past 8 months.

1 year Surfshark subscription is my 1 month’s data roaming fee.

I still do have backup data roaming (on 1 sim card) for just in case.

I’ve data roaming failed on me before (on and off) while in China. So I’ve learnt to have backups!

I used to have 2 data roaming sims.

There are hundreds. I tried this one for more than a year. It went down only once for a couple of hours. It can consistently download from Google drive at 300-500mbps.
