when i tried logging into the nordvpn app, it opened the browser and sent me to a suspicious login url that was a string of random characters. it was not nordaccount.com but something like auth..com
is this normal?

I’m not familiar with the windows CLI, but on Linux you can get around that with typing
nordvpn login --legacy
in a terminal window, and then giving your username and password when promted.
But this is bad. heavily restricted countries, such as Russia, Iran, China, Turkey; The internet service provider sees that the web browser is logged out. It even gets stuck in deep packet inspection. 5 years ago they used to open it through the Nordvpn program session.
