Not-setup VPN preventing wifi connection

iPhone 13, iOS 17.1.2

I don’t and never have had a VPN connection; in settings it’s toggled off.

When I connect to my (home) wifi, it briefly connects, and then the VPN tries to engage. Since it has nothing to connect to, it just hangs, also preventing me from using the wifi.

There are no options for making changes to this “VPN” connection other than on/off, and like I said, it’s toggled to off.

I’ve tried a hard reset; no change. Short of doing something like a factory reset, is there anything I can do to make this stop, and connect to the wifi properly?

Please be sure to add: iPhone model, iOS version, and clear question or request. Failure to add these three requirements may result in your post being removed. Thank you.

Settings → General → VPN & Device Management → Click on VPN portal, Turn off automatic connect and other areas within the listed VPN that are showing.

Thank you! I’ve changed that and we’ll see what happens when I get home tonight!!

It worked! Thanks so much!

Is there a way to force it to update without wifi?

Oh, I know it would. You’re welcome.

You can use iTunes/Finder on a computer and update that way? The computer will need a WiFi connection

Unfortunately I do not have a computer that can do that

Damn. Hard reset again, toggle airplane mode, toggle vpn. I’m not sure
