PIA Ad Blocking

Hey guys I have a question here. I used to use PIA, but I recently switched to Blokada along with its new VPN feature.

The reason I switched to Blokada was because of the ad and tracker blocker. However, I would rather stick to PIA for their proven track record.

My question is, how many ads and trackers does PIA Mace block and is it better than Blokada?

Thanks

Hello u/psilvs!

Ad-blocking on our VPN is available through our MACE advertising filter. We use the public blocklist provided by Blocking with ad server and tracking server hostnames.

This text document lists all of the ad domains the MACE filter currently blocks: Blocklist of hostnames and domains for blocking ads, trackers and others (format: plain HTML list -- as a plain list of hostnames (with HTML))

Don’t rely on a third party for these. Setup Pi-hole or pfSense on your network to block ads and trackers.

Neat. What does MACE stand for?

Incidentally, from your FAQ:

Are so called “acceptable ads” allowed?
As we do not edit any of the lists we use (and block on a DNS level) we do not and cannot check for acceptable, or non-acceptable, adverts.

For the record, I don’t include any sort of “acceptable ads” and try very hard not to include any false positives.

I live at school and don’t have control over that. Hence why I’m asking

Of course you do. Just setup a private network.
