I travel a lot and would like to use a VPN to gain access to services that are available in my home country. Would setting up my own VPN server be better than using a commercial VPN

Question of I could please.

If I set up a private VPN server, would this mean my client download speed would equate to the server upload speed?

So for example. Server connection has 250 down, 50 up.

Does this mean the client would be limited to 50?

I’m trying to have five places we stay use the same Netflix etc account. We travel for our business and generally stay on premises. We get some issues sometimes.

I guess that makes the priority not to be detected as a vpn.

As you have mentioned, doing it with the server on our fastest connection should be sufficient for streaming.

There is also a second priority, having a static ip across those addresses for our voip system. Currently each of the 5 is $10 per month for a static ip each, so was thinking of options to reduce that.
