Recommendations for a fast and secure VPN?

I’ve been looking for a secure VPN for downloading via Usenet and torrents. The VPN that comes with giganews is pretty slow, and I tried cryptocloud and that was a disaster. What are people using and happy with these days?

Also definitely stay away from Giganews VPN. It’s essentially worthless as it’s not actually private. Your ip is tracked/monitored , and they will absolutely give up your info if the gov asked for it. I tested it (vyper) and a warning letter was sent to them from some porn company trying to scam money, and they in turn sent the warning on to me.

I like PIA → privateinternetaccess.com

Speeds are good, but for torrents you’ll have to use a server outside of the US.

Speed test hit my 100Mbps cap. I haven’t tested on a 1Gbps uplink/downlink yet, so I don’t know if it’s much more than that.

I didn’t hop on Reddit today looking for an alternative to Giganew’s VPN, but I’ve certainly found one anyway. I use a VPN primarily to watch BBC/Channel4 online, so a UK server is definitely a must. Thanks to those of you that recommended PIA. I’ve paid for a month to see how well it works compared to Vypr. At first try, it definitely connects much quicker and seems to allow a faster connection to the UK. Time will tell, but it looks like I make have found a new VPN. Time to drop down that Giganews package as I no longer really use their DumpTruck service anymore and prefer Newsleecher over Mimo.

I second PIA. I use it for securing myself online when I’m out at coffee shops and such.

I also use the SOCKS5 Proxy for my torrents, works great.

Pia rules. I tested a couple and pias been solid. Easy to use and I test the speeds all the time. Majority of the time, there’s no drop off and the few times there are, it’s minor.

AirVPN !!
I used PIA and choose to go over to AirVPN.
Very private, good prices, nice control panel (real time status of their servers usage and bandwidth).

I used PrivatVPN and never had a problem. They delete their logs after two hours except on their American servers.

Anyone use slick VPN? I got it free with my news demon package.

I hit about 2MB/s connected, 4MB/s not.

Why not get a seedbox?? yeah i know pricey. No worries about VPN or seeding…it does everything for you. Usenet…you can still use the SSL.

My recommendation is boxpn. Slightly more money than PIA but has higher encryption, better features and more servers. PIA offers technical support for more platforms. I’ve been using boxpn with great success for over a year and they have a North American server that supports torrents for better speeds. Check out the comparision here.

Build your own. I currently use a VPS provider with OpenVPN. If you have any interest in playing around with a Linux server I highly recommend it both for the experience and just the added capabilities you get compared to a standalone VPN service (I pay around $7 USD a month for 2TB of transfer 50GB of storage and a gigabit connection)

EarthVPN

They even give you 25% off with coupon code: REDDITVPN

You don’t mention if you’re looking for free or paid.

He’s absolutely right… VyperVPN provides 0 protection. It’s just a way for them to push their Diamond package. I used them for a year and after learning that they don’t protect me in any way, I dumped them. I spend half that now for Usenet AND VPN access. I’m much happier. Currently I’m using PIA (PrivateInternetAccess). I haven’t had any issues with them, though I’m not sure about speed. I don’t seem to cap out on my 100Mbps, but it’s fast enough for my needs.

Didn’t know that they were that bad regarding privacy. I just knew that the speeds sucked, and I never use it. But good to know

Totally agree on pia. It’s been great for me.
Also I haven’t had any problem with torrents and us servers?

Ive been using this for months now. Ive only tried one other VPN service and it was fucking HORRIBLE.

But with PIA my speeds are just about identical and it just works…

I’ve used US servers for torrents and they download just fine. Are they not safe? And mind you I’m just looking to seed to 1.0 and avoid ISP notices, I’m not uploading any content myself.

Can you explain why you’d need one outside the US?
