Recommendations for good VPN, email, cloud storage etc - anything online preferably Europe based

Any good recommendations for online privacy are appreciated, even if it’s not specifically email or vpn. I’m trying to think of what I’m missing here, so please let me know. I want to wipe my online presence as much as possible.

After the recent big-tech capitulation/embracing of the incoming U.S. administration, my husband and I have decided we have to be a lot more thoughtful about our stuff online.

If anyone can recommend good tech companies for any everyday stuff, that would be fantastic. I’ve used Mullvad VPN before and I’m thinking of going for it.

Also if people have recommendations of a service that can easily download all my facebook stuff before I wipe it, I’d really appreciate it. Right now I’m manually going through and downloading it and it sucks. They’ve clearly deliberately made it difficult :')

I’ve signed up to Redact to mass edit posts prior to deletion, which i’ve found easy to use and I wholly recommend :slight_smile: It’s just a peace of mind thing for me.

I know some people are saying BlueSky etc are good social media alternatives, but I am thinking perhaps I’m done with it all except for Reddit. Sadly reddit feels necessary these days as google search is broken. And I do really value communities like this one.

    • I use rsync.net for backups and self host my own storage so I don’t have a good recommendation here.

You can download your FB data by going in to Accounts Center, Your Information and Permissions, and then Download Your Information.
