Remote Desktop/Teamviewer on inflight wifi?

Hi,

Flying EWR-LAX tomorrow with panasonic inflight wifi onboard. Just wondering if anyone has tried to rdp or teamviewer into a remote machine while on a flight?

Thanks

I can usually get a lot of work done on TeamViewer. And not all VPN are blocked.

I can get through some L2TP/IPSec tunnels to various data centers, but I rely mainly on an SSL VPN I run, which gives me access to anything I need.

I regularly do a lot of work this way on my flights. Some planes have MUCH better internet than others. I have seen 50x50 on one select flight. So I know it’s possible. But usually it’s horrendous but TeamViewer still works somehow.

I have never had an issue with my company’s VPN being blocked and I have a coworker who regularly RDPs (not sure if he’s on VPN when he does). Of course Wi-Fi can be quite unreliable at times, so it doesn’t much matter what is blocked if the internet doesn’t work.

And be prepared for Teams to not work. Have the SharePoint addresses ready if you are an MS shop.

I use Strong VPN and it worked fine for me on several long flights.

NordVPN works for me

Inflight wifi is slow, besides, some ports are blocked, VPN doesn’t work.

I’ve done a fair amount of rdp on flights. It’s not fun, but it works. If it’s the Thales internet, you’re better off than Panasonic. But it will work, very laggy, drops here and there, but I can get in to kick of jobs, check status, etc.

Do it all the time, through VPN or just the dirty internet. Internet can be spotty, but amazing what you can get done at 35,000 feet.

I’ve tried it. It works but is very slow and unreliable.

My firm uses Citrix receiver for our Remote Desktop and it is super slow in the air. The whole desktop is laggy.

Yes, YMMV.

I’ve been happy with Strong VPN - it works in many places that normally block VPN access.

Very handy internationally for watching US based streaming services.
