Sharing Internet connection with MacOS

I am trying to share my VPN connection as a Wifi Hotspot from my MacBook.

In Settings->General->Sharing, I can select under Internet Sharing “Share connection from ProtonVPN”, and choose the desired WiFi settings.

However, the Wifi can not be found on other devices.

If I choose “Sharing share connection from Ethernet”, I have no issues connecting to the Hotspot.

As far as I have read, there is no issue sharing VPNs as a Hotspot. Is there something blocked from ProtoMail.

Furthermore I found this article on the ProtonMail page, explaining the procedure for windows and Linux. So it seems that there should be nothing preventing this on MacOs

Unfortunately, it’s not currently possible to share a Proton VPN connection via hotspot on a macOS device. This option is only available on Windows and Linux at the moment.

Nonetheless, we appreciate the feedback and we’ll forward it to the team for future consideration.

+1 on this issue.

I use my Mac Mini as an always-on server & extension of my home network which also acts as its own router through Internet Sharing. Not only do you guys not support Split Tunnelling on MacOS to allow me to pass the Internet Sharing implimentation outside of the VPN, but you also don’t allow broadcasting the VPN connection in the first place. So either I have to enable the VPN and not be able to use Internet Sharing across my entire Mac, or disable the VPN and not be able to use certain “services” which require my use of a VPN.

Hey, did you find a VPN that supports connection sharing on Mac in the meanwhile ?
