SolidWorks Program

I’m taking engineering 7A and I’m having trouble with downloading solid works on my computer, it’s a surface laptop studio. I was wondering if my computer can even run it or what type of computer you guys recommend for engineering classes in the future?

I thought as long as it’s running windows then you should be good. Worked on my laptop the first time which is running windows 11.

It’s a big download as is most engineering software. Maybe campus is limiting download. Try connecting to campus vpn before downloading and installation. Also follow the instructions carefully from the download website.

If you’re MAE, you need to know solidworks really well for any projects as well as MAE52/152. Get comfortable with it as you’ll be using it a lot.

I managed to finally download it. I just saw that the teacher said an alternative is onshape which is accessible through a simple website but ig learning about solidworks might be the better choice

Onshape is pretty cool. If you’re a MAE major you’ll need Solidworks eventually. Also there’s laptop specifications at laptops.Eng.UCI.edu. If you need help installing solidworks contact [email protected]. There’s also Ethernet ports in the back of MSTB 224 for engineering students.
