TeamViewer stays connected while I connect to a vpn

As above, I connect to teamviewer with my account on both and on same network. When I connect to vpn on the client pc, team viewer stats commected. Is this because it’s on the same network. I haven’t tried with another vpn or from a different network but wanted to make sure my vpn was working.

I’m not 100%, but I believe there’s a reconnect buffer as my work uses Teamviewer and when I have to put a end user device on the vpn for one reason or another my connection will stall in the last screen shown before the vpn finished connecting and then after about 5-10 seconds it’ll reestablish the connection via the new internet IP of the device now I’m the internet.

So basically TV will just freeze the image until the TV client goes out the new internet pathway and the server can reconnect the connector to the connectee.

As long at the VPN network the client connects to it should always reconnect. If the client connects a vpn that doesn’t have internet access being allowed, it’ll likely time out and lose connection eventually.

If your VPN software is not flashing your state table the existing connection will not go away. This could partially also be due to a local IP connection if it is in the same subnet

Depends on the VPN. For example my work VPN only send internal company traffic across the VPN. Normal webtraffic such as zoom, external sites, Spotify, and O365 don’t go across the VPN and instead go out my normal internet connection. TeamViewer would be the same as connections are proxied through TeamViewer servers. So if I was in a TeamViewer session and connected to my work VPN the connection wouldn’t drop.

Some VPNs like privacy VPNs will route all traffic across the VPN and would likely trigger a reconnection in TeamViewer.
