Thoughts on Pulse Secure VPN?

Hi All. We currently use Cisco AnyConnect VPN. Many of our workers are constantly moving around using cellular networks. We are frustrated because AnyConnect keeps dropping the connection. We heard that Pulse Secure might be able to help with this and are considering switching to their VPN solution. Does anyone use Pulse Secure VPN on cellular networks?

Can’t comment on the cellular piece but we’ve used Pulse Secure for years and it’s been excellent.

The only time I’ve tried using it is on a Mac, and it was a complete failure. Couldn’t even get it set up properly with the configuration file we needed to use.

I just hate the reliance on Java in the browser… it seems to reconnect fairly well–I’ve used it on iffy networks and it’s dropped and reconnected without issue once it was restored (a few minutes of no connection).

We just ditched PS for Global Protect because 1) java 2) free

Let me know if you get ahold of one of their sales reps. It’s been well over a month now, and still no response on our request for quote.

Pulse has been JAVA free for almost 3 years. 8.2 removed all dependency. Also, for RDP, Pulse uses HTML5 with an embedded Guacamole for native RDP to HTML5. The real value is actually in Host-Checker and very strong Auth for users prior to accessing session. Works with Citrix and VMware as a unified front end for any session.
I use HOtSpot on my phone all the time with laptop and VPN. No issues

Hm, I just actually tested this as we just got a Pulse Secure appliance a few months back and, yeah, it doesn’t require Java (at least in the browser)… it just made me install an app launcher and worked fine from Chrome with NPAPI plugins disabled… I guess I have to go poke our network team and make someone correct all the documentation that says only IE works and the Java plugin is required… not sure why they (our network team) wouldn’t advertise this as a major reason for upgrading.
