Torrent stalled when VPN is on

I’m using qBittorrent, and the VPN I use is VPN Unlimited as they had a lifetime membership that I bought a few years back. On VPN Unlimited there are several servers that supposedly allow torrenting, such as Bucharest, Ontario and Paris.

My network interface, when I previously set it to any interface, is able to torrent when the VPN is not connected, but the moment I connect all trackers just get disconnected, eventually stalling the torrents. This has happened a few times, previously resolved with a combination of turning off the VPN, then turning it back on when I manage to connect to a few peers, and force reannounce trackers. But this is just a temporary solution, and I’m looking for a more permanent one. I’ve set the network interface to use the VPN interface, restarted qBittorrent etc and it still doesn’t seem to work. Please help

Edit: I’ve noticed that whenever my VPN runs qBittorrent says that my connection status is offline as shown in the screenshot below as the red globe. Clicking on it takes me to the connection settings but I have absolutely no idea what to change here

Red globe = no connection

What do I have to change? If port forwarding is required, I don’t even know how to do it. On port checker apparently all my ports are closed even though my firewall settings say otherwise

Is it all torrents even really popular ones?

Had similar issue recently.

Turns out the tracker did not allow alternate IP from the VPN and thus blocked the connection.

Most of them dont like to see your account from different sources - check rules on your tracker - i bet this is the issue.

How long did you want for the connections to come back up? I suppose its possible that the chosen local port clashes with the remote port that’s already in use on the server. At least that’s what I had when I misconfigured local port vs forwarded port in my VPN provider’s configuration.

When you set to “any interface” in qBittorrent I suppose it uses both the VPN and your real internet. As a result in the best case you get twice the connectivity. Nobody seems to care to actually check in Wireguard for themselves. I might do it for a private tracker invite

Yeah pretty much. Without my vpn I can torrent stuff at more than 10mb/s depending on the seeds, the moment I turn on the vpn it just goes down to zero and stalls

How would I go about doing this? I’m really clueless here. Checking the trackers tab shows quite a few of them have timed out

Is this to do with the listening port? I’m not sure what I should use so I just press the random button. Also enabled the “use UPnP/NAT-PMP port forwarding from my router”

Expected because it has to reconnect. Does it remain stalled for a long time?

Sorry for late reply. I’m sure the UPnP setting won’t work with your VPN like with most other VPNs out there. Yes the listening port matters but I dont know exactly what breaks in this case.

Yes it remains stalled indefinitely. Once I turn off the vpn it reconnects pretty quickly
