TotalAV Opinions

I will definitely try after seeing these comments.

Were you finally able to successfully cancel?

I don’t think it’s actually malicious but they are scammers and their av is trash.

Yeah I quit with them and just went and stuck with ol’ reliable Bitdefender

That’s what they do? You still got it installed? If not install it, install malware bytes and do a scan with malware bytes. It detects Total AV as a PUP lmao
And that’s exactly what it is. Don’t experiment either choose Kaspersky or Bitdefender. Download hitman pro and do one time scans once a week.

Did you end up getting your subscription cancelled?

Use Bitwarden instead, its open source and actually independently audited.

Also, regarding VPN’s, what do you use them for, or think they help with?

Try Kaspersky Security Cloud Free instead, dont pay for an antivirus as the features you get is not worth it.

Poetentially Unwanted Program.

Depends how strongly you complain. For those in the States, those who complain to the BBB tend to have a greater rate of success.

I do some torrenting and just not trying to get any DCMA. I also stream everything, I don’t have cable. I have Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Disney, YouTube TV and Sling. My ISP hates my streaming and throttles the hell out of me. Since I’ve used a VPN…I actually have been getting better speeds and no buffering on anything. I also use it to tunnel from cpu to cpu outside the house e.g. from my cpu to my business cpu server. I’ve used bitwarden wasn’t much for the feel of it but maybe I’ll give it a go again. I still have like 3 months left on my Webroot I think so I’ll just uninstall TotalAV. I have DefenderUI and Voodoo shield as well.

Stick to Windows Defender with DefenderUI and Voodooshield, I actually use DefenderUI myself and have found it great.

I remember when OSArmour used to be free. I had windows defender + voodoo shield + OSArmour and never needed anything else and it was all 100% free and probably the best protection I’ve ever had tbh. DefenderUI was a turn off at first when I clicked the “protect this cpu from ever becoming infected with malware” button and the browser opened to voodooshield and TotalAV’s total AdBlock was auto installed in the browser as well as bitwarden.

I finally learned/understand that after decades of development defender is now a fully equipped, functioning security suite for windows. Other security suites just clash & clog up machines. Apple have their own security system & Android is probably best using Google or Linux security options. Antivirus antimalware suites r best left with the old systems & devices they protected for a few decades before succumbing to the internet mafia.
VPN gives access to content otherwise U available in the areas we are using them in, little else. Kodi is illegal in Australia here so it doesn’t matter anyway really. I deleted the Kodi apps on my devices and they’re terrific now .

By the last sentence, do you mean ONLY Total Adblock was auto installed? And regarding voodooshield and DefenderUI, its just an funny marketing tactic, its an lone developer after all.

No Total AdBlock and Bitwarden were auto installed on Edge (I had just done a fresh cloud reinstall of windows) and it was the first thing I installed (DefenderUI). I’ve used voodoo shield in the past and love the extra layer of protection but miss OSArmour. Needless to say I removed those add-ons with Revo and downloaded Firefox. I noticed that once all those things were installed though the “protect this pc from ever getting malware” was checked. So I’m guessing that was the whole point of it adding voodooshield to the OS and total AdBlock + bitwarden to the browser.

Bitwarden doesnt use these tactics to market itself.

Did you perhaps sync your settings by loggin into Edge?

Try uBlock Origin instead as an adblocker.

FYI, the only thing the “Prevent malware from ever infecting this system” button does is open the voodooshield website. We are not in affiliated with AdBlock+ or bitwarden in any way. So I have no idea how those were auto installed.

I don’t think I did, but cannot say for sure. I’ll take it as a “I probably did” I’ll give the uBlock Origin a run.

I wish I was a fan of all in 1 suites (AV + Firewall + Features) then I would just use Kaspersky. I’ve always felt that my AV should only be a AV, a standalone top notch AV just dedicated to catching everything. My Firewall should be unrelated to my AV, my VPN separate, and my PW manager separate. I feel like the suites are like a sushi chef trying to make top notch steak too.

Kaspersky may be the best AV (idk) but it isn’t the best firewall. But for 1 program to handle everything it may be the best. However if I bundle something like Bitdefender or Webroot, or even just Kaspersky AV with something like Zone Alarm, I feel like the security would be better (having 1 dedicated program doing 1 dedicated job)

Its worth to remember, your antivirus cant do everything for you, you must use common sense and practice standard cyberhygiene.

Out of interest, what do you see as being an issue with Kaspersky’s firewall?

If you want separate programs, look at Kaspersky Security Cloud Free (don’t install the password manager, and uninstall the VPN) and Comodo Free Firewall.
