It only seems this way… what happens is the game now shows the ping to the VPN and not the ping to you.
You > VPN 150 ping > game 50 ping = 200 ping
Vs
You > game 150 ping = 150
The difference is the game thinks you are the VPN , but then the VPN needs to send the data back to you which adds ping.
So the only way a VPN could result in a lower ping is if your route to the VPN, combined with the route from the VPN to Blizzard’s servers, is a shorter route than directly from you to Blizzard’s servers.
It’s not impossible, sometimes ISP routing is shit, but I wouldn’t consider it as being likely.
And you almost certainly wouldn’t see gains higher than 20ms.
yes you can if the regular plain is going to fly around with a big hook and you decided to get on a private jet to go straight to the point you need
Yes, but depending on one’s ISP, it can be the difference between getting on a plane that stops at 10 different cities along the way (and in “wrong” directions) vs. taking a plane that flies direct to the destination.
I dunno mate, I’ve fixed a bunch of connection issues between me and both friends or game servers - think of it like a car trip - going through fields might be shorter, but a highway still might take you there faster. Only way to be sure is to check
Currently playing an FPS game where switching weapons relies on how much latency you have, and I can confirm that I switch weapons way faster when using the VPN to lower my ping and the game in general feels better. That’s all I know, got no technical knowledge about these things xD.
