So I’ve recently found out that even though VPN by Google One was discontinued, Pixels have a built in connection for it. Tried turning it on and kept getting the “VPN by Google isn’t supported in your location.” message even though I have a Pixel 7 Pro that was bought from my local AT&T store in Texas.
I’ve tried uninstalling updates, reinstalling, clearing app cache and storage, restarting my wifi, switching from wifi to mobile 5G data. All my permissions are also allowed.
Now I’m in an email correspondence with Google support which is clearly AI considering it reiterates what I say verbatim then answers with a generic Google Help page.
Anyone here have the issue before that can guide me?
Just went through this issue on my 9 Pro in the UK. Two things you need to check:
- Is your Google Account region/location also set to US?
- Do you have a payment profile of any country other than the US? You can check this by going to payments.google.com and on the top right I think it should list your country profile.
For me, it turned out to be the second case and I just couldn’t delete the profile of my home country since I frequently visit there. The solution was to create a new Google account in the UK, add it to the phone and select that one when enabling VPN by Google.
IF your trying to use the QUICK TAP VPN button, their are 2 in the settings…you need to use the other one!
Also go into just settings, and under network it will show there
It works fine for me. I’m using it right now.
Odd, just checked it and the built in Google VPN on my 8A perfectly fine. So does Nord and Proton.
It works for me on my 7a, but I’m a Google Fi subscriber. Could it be because you’re on AT&T?
Do you use a private DNS like adguard? If so, try turning that off first and then connecting.
Is this the only VPN you can use? There are a lot of other options, some of them superior. I like Virtual 5G Express. It’s sped up my connection, made it more stable, and done a great job unblocking my access to sites like TikTok, YouTube and Facebook.
It’s only a dollar a year, so it’s almost free. You can download it from Google Play or the App Store.
Having trouble finding out my account region but 99% sure it should be set in the United States. My Google Play country is set to the US for example
My payments are also US based
The quick setting button doesn’t do anything as long as my main isn’t activated from the settings regardless. I’m using the VPN app that launches straight from network settings
Yeah it should work on any Pixel above 7, don’t understand why mine isn’t. Using VPN always on gets me this message:
“VPN by Google is set up to stay connected all the time, but it can’t connect right now. Your phone will use a public network until it can reconnect to VPN by Google. Change VPN settings”
My brother has a Pixel 7 Pro as well. His is working just fine on the same wifi network. I’m just confused about it all
Don’t believe so since it works on my brother’s phone and we’re on the same plan. Other VPNs do work but I’d rather delete those entirely and use the one installed directly in the phone.
I use the private DNS that’s automatically turned on in Settings so let me try turning that off
Oh no definitely not. I just wanted to use it for convenience. I have a Pixel phone and this comes with a built in premium VPN so why not
Have you checked the website payments.google.com to see if there are any other country profiles created? This could also happen when you visit a different country and pay via Google Wallet etc and add that countries payment method to your account.
Going to sound odd, but did you reset your network connect and/or your phone? I never used it before now, but searched VPN, clicked Proton, disconnected it, and then went back, clicked Google VPN and bam, instant connection.
Just checked. Had a card I don’t recognize/remember so I deleted that one. Everything else is American however even the account location.
Still no change.
Asking about a factory reset or just rebooting my phone? Done the latter, not really keen on the former
Not a factory reset, going into your network settings and doing a network reset
