I had Nord VPN on my T-Mobile iPhone 12 until I was forced to upgrade. My iPhone wouldn’t connect to the internet via WiFi or cellular, and I couldn’t receive or send calls or messages. I was told that my vpn caused a discrepancy on my phone that locked me out of wireless communication. After upselling me a new phone, I was told not to put a vpn on it as it could repeat the problem. The longer I sat with this the more I felt like I was lied to so they could sell me a new phone. I had a vpn on that phone for almost 2 years with no issues. I don’t like the lack of security and anonimity that comes with not having a vpn, and I don’t like not having the freedom to put what apps I want on my phone. Has anyone else experienced this with their vpn, and do you have any solutions? I want a vpn, but don’t want to brick another phone.
Your VPN will not brick your phone.
It will complicate any troubleshooting.
It is entirely fair to ask you to remove your 3rd-party VPN software when ensuring your device is working properly. Once the phone is confirmed working (send/receive calls, browse the web) then what you do is up to you but your phone works.
If the phone doesn’t work then a network reset is appropriate. If that doesn’t resolve the issue a backup then a factory reset. Or a visit to Apple for diagnostics.
Then a warranty claim or insurance claim, as available.
Or, replace the phone.
But all at your discretion.
Also don’t forget you can likely find a computer repair shop that also handles cellphones for a second opinion. Or, again, visit an Apple store.
Finally, regarding VPN, Apple has their own VPN system bundled with online backup and other services. Unless you feel a need to masquerade being in other countries it is cheaper, faster, and less cumbersome.
Did you delete the old VPN profile on your phone and install a new one again?
I’ve been running either the Private Internet Access or NordVPN VPN app on my T-Mobile mobile devices 24/7 since 2017 and have never had a problem connecting to a mobile or WiFi network. I have also used the Google One VPN with no issues.
I’m actually a little concerned that you are using a VPN but lack tech savvy. Unless it’s for work then you should at least know why it would potentially interrupt/slow down your data connection.
Not that I’m aware of. I woke up one day after having used the phone and vpn setup the same way for almost 2 years, and couldn’t connect to anything except Bluetooth
I get why it could slow down my connection, but I was told that “t-mobiles network saw my phone attempting to reconnect too frequently and locked my phone out.” I did a network reset, and was unable to get it to reconnect. I’m certainly not the most tech savvy person out there, but why would something that’s worked uninterrupted for so long suddenly give me so much trouble.
A VPN really doesn’t provide a significant amount of anonymity nor security, unless you’re connecting to seedy WiFi networks. It does little to nothing while using cellular data. There are use cases, but it’s not anywhere as “essential” as the marketing for these services would have you believe.
You should have tried that first. Sometime the profile you originally install when you install NordVpn or any vpn can go crazy and block calls and messages when the vpn is on. I would have done that first.
