Had been using NordVPN on an Asus router for about 18months with no problems.
I am not using a VPN APP on the AppleTV. This is traffic is coming from my Asus router via wifi through NordVPN using openVPN UDP protocol.
Then about a month ago it no longer works for either AppleTV or on my macbook when I try to login to any app that requires spectrum login/sign in w/ your cable provider ( ESPN, TLC, etc.)
I get JL-9000 error on spectrum app on apple TV. And on ESPN app/watch website, for example, when i try to login via QRcode/link on my laptop I get “403 forbidden” when it transfers to the https://tve.spectrum.net/openam/SSOPOST/metaAlias/charter/idp page for credentials.
Is anyone using a different VPN that is still functioning or know a work around?
I’ll look up the error code next week if I remember, but I’m guessing it’s because they won’t/can’t (per licensing agreements) allow you to access region-locked TV content from known VPN IPs. Switching to a different Nord server might work temporarily but even if it does you’ll probably eventually run into the same issue again.
Is there a way to exempt your apple tv traffic from the VPN?
Also, if you’re willing to upgrade to a business account I think it’s still possible to pull multiple (non-static) public IPs from one modem via a switch and run 2 completely separate LANs that way, one with the router-level VPN and one without. But I’m not 100% sure that’s still supported and it would be more expensive.
If your looking for traveling i finally found out how make a VPN with spectrum internet within your home it must be spectrum internet otherwise this will not work
Get yourself a Gl.Net travel router and configure it for traveling get the VPN configurations from your home directly and after you connected it with either ethernet repeater from hotel or what ever it is depending witch one it is once it’s successful to your home you can now stream it all with everything unblock cause the ip address will say its home welcome home buddy
If your on PC or laptop you can run it directly without any errors
If you do it directly from phone spectrum will automatically detect you saying your using VPN please disable it good luck buddy
Why can’t this shii be normallised like direct tv stream where i can be in any internet connection and im okay with it and if im out the U.S i can VPN into my home still stream it can this be normalised for once
you’re correct about the error code. It’s some sort of authentication error code. Google search says it’s common when using VPN. Some of these forum posts with same problem are from a year ago, but this only started recently so I am guessing that spectrum and other streaming providers are learning and adjusting to stop the practice.
yes it’s true running it directly on your phone instantly gives you an error i was running an ASUS GT-AX11000 at home and it has a VPN server built in that you can create yourself basically any ASUS router can work you can do this With DDNS just in case if your IP changes you don’t have to change anything if anytime this happens you may need to fix it time to time but DDNS will never change and also make a USERNAME and Pass in the just for you in the wireguard server or openvpn server
after i make the VPN server config from the router i test the client side to see if it can connect and i also test outside my network like AT&T to see if i can use spectrum internet from outside either using openvpn or wireguard once connected we can do anything we want under spectrum internet from your own home
next i get this travel router called GL-SFT1200 it has a VPN client and server but on this case we are going to do as configure the client side and upload a VPN configuration from your ASUS router my choice will be wireguard cause it is fast type your created user and pass for the VPN server from the main router and start the VPN server in the GL-SFT1200
and once it’s working go to spectrum TV while connected to GL.SFT1200 as WIFI it should let you in and your good to go and you can take it with you at a second house your friend or another house connect the WIFI of SFT12000 router at their place and start the VPN client to connect to spectrum internet as a VPN server from your own home make sure you trun off all VPN connections from your phone then connect to spectrum TV and your good to go
This is correct. I’m outside of USA. The alternative of illegal streaming sports/live events isn’t reliable and will always lose stream during crucial moments of which can’t be rewound since it’s a live stream.
