Weird problems with iPhone and Proton

I’ve also noticed protonVPN sometimes has different login locations than what is showing on the VPN. Once the login location showed as Peru and it was in fact Switzerland. Also some other situations with the iPhone: sometimes, logged into ProtonVPN on an iPhone, I get booted out/ logged out for no reason (this happened earlier), I feared it was some hack phone takeover - this only seems to happen on the iPhone I notice. Also at times a duplicate iOS appeared in the protonVPN settings which could not have been possible as I only have one, so raised the question of a duplicate / cloned iPhone somewhere. I find if I log into the iCloud for more than 5 minutes I have problems with the iPhone. Sometimes internet gets cut for no reason. Sometimes it’s as if the iOS is spoofed, just plain weird, not able to log out of iCloud normally. Perhaps Apple does not like protonVPN, I just don’t understand the problems every time it’s on the iPhone. When I tried using CarPlay a few times the phone crashed and I had to switch phones, it’s as if Apple will not work with protonVPN or there is some hack going on /some problem. I also find when I try to protect the proton account with a 2FA something breaks the hardware dongle and also the Authenticator app; too many times the 2FA stops working or gets broken and passwords have to be changed, sometimes lost emails. I cannot help but wonder is this an iPhone issue or what. Anyone have similar issues?

This has happened to me a fair bit as I always do a quick whatsmyip whenever I log into my VPN. In fact, only a day or two ago I was logged into a Swiss server on the app but whatismyip was showing a Proton Server in Falkirk, Scotland. I’ve also seen South East Asian countries and even Tehran once - which gave me a bit of a fright (logged into an Australian server). Restarting the connection seemed to fix it.

Never have issues with iCloud though.

I recently got blocked on the web attempting to log in to a site that uses Cloudflare. Cloudflare blocked me from accessing the site completely. The message stated that the IP I was using was flagged previously for web scraping activities. Since many users are using the same IP address, you have people performing all types of activities that cause security alerts. I’ve also noticed that the location using the same IP can change frequently. I’m guessing that’s due to random routing of traffic and when you log in or visit a site at a particular moment, you might be on a server in that location. The other issues might be due to the IP recognized as a VPN and the site is rejecting your visit without notifying you like Cloudflare does.

So as far as the location issue that can happen from time to time just because an ip has changed. When this happens the databases that track the ips geo locations need to update and that can take a while sometimes. And I think the rest can be summed up more so as apple while wanting to keep your data safe wants to keep it in their hands. Not so much that they don’t like proton specifically.

1: if you use safari with private relay, then you will get many different locations while login,

  1. apple doesn’t like TRUE privacy features, so they want you to turn off kill switch to proper functioning of apple carplay

  2. proton has rented some shtt servers from datacamp and others, that were blocked by many websites/cloudfare, even USCIS.

so, the mistakes are from apple and r/Proton, as everybody agrees proton is small company doesn’t work on schedule, and famous for delaying features (proton pass for safari dead in the mud) and to respond.
