Can you use your cable wifi modem to use a open vpn or do you need a router connected to cable wifi modem to use an open vpn
Depends on what you are doing. You need to answer a couple questions.
- What are you trying to accomplish with the VPN? Anonymity/Security or access to your home network?
- What resources do you have? If you are just looking for Security, you can subscribe to a VPN or setup a Azure Account and run a Linux Computer (I have done this, it is neat). If you are wanting to access your home network, you can have a computer inside your network to connect (open a port in firewall). If your router supports it, create a VPN connection to it (I have a Edge Router from Ubiquity for this option).
- Does my current router support this? I didn’t even hook up my service provider modem/router, so I cannot tell you if it works or not. I used my own modem and router which the router had these options.
Go get a raspberry pi.
That works perfectly for me and is more then power sufficient.
I now know most wifi modems that service providers give you upon setting up your wifi dosnt support vpn network’s that why a router is in fact needed to run such services as a vpn problem solved
Are you looking for vpn on hardware?

security and most of all anonymity is wanted subscribe to a vpn and run it through a wifi cable modem if possible just didn’t know if cable wifi modems support that or not
just didn’t know if cable wifi modems support that or not
Depends on the model, but most of the crappy all-in-ones that an ISP provides is bottom of the barrel with no such option for it to be a VPN client. You need to simply log in to your router and find out. It either has an option for a VPN or not.
