I’m currently using a Buld a plan subscription. I have the US servers (for Netflix), and I want another, more privacy friendly country. Mostly in the EU.
I checked it on Google (DDG) but every site says different…
Which EU country should I choose? I heard that Switzerland is good.
Check out the Comparison chart in the side bar. It will break down privacy issues by company based on their location.
Yes, Switzerland is probably the best.
If it needs to be EU then Netherlands…usually more servers
The US has no laws requiring ISPs or providers retain any logs or records of use.
That’s half of the coin. The other half is the pervasive NSA and CIA wiretapping, global (including domestic) logging and spying of all metadata and communications (including optic cable tapping), and National Security Letters et al. with secret FISA courts requiring any designated body (basically everyone in tech) to give full access to said government bodies to log everything. Hence the huge NSA datacenters in Nevada to store it all, with more being built as we speak.
So yes, the US has no ‘mandatory logging’ in the transparent way the EU countries do… But they do have mandatory indiscriminate secret logging and spying/tapping instead.
Def not Netherlands as they cooperate fully with 9 Eyes countries & also fund BREIN, a Dutch org that joins P2P trackers purely to figure out who uploads and press charges against them.
Netherlands is very high on the list of countries to avoid just like 5/9/18 Eyes countries.
If you read the entire page it explains everything that goes in to the categories and how they affect privacy and trust of the companies. There is a section for the “Simple Comparison” and one for the “Detailed Comparison”. It is incredibly detailed.
But even the government officials use a lot of drugs. So 90% is forgotten the next day:)
A lot of major vpn providers have servers in the Nertherlands for P2P
Quite so, but I wasn’t the one making assertions. I simply answered those made by another poster, which implied that the US was some kind of privacy safehaven because they ‘don’t have mandatory logging’. Internationally speaking, the USA is up there with China for spying on its own citizens and those of foreign countries, even allies. Ask Ed Snowden, PRISM, X-KEYSCORE et al.
50% of the drugs arriving in the harbour is exported, 40% is consumed by tourists. Not even 10% is consumed by locals.
Government officials don’t need drugs to forget stuff. They already have an extremely selective memory.
Yes they do, since AMS is a hub for datacenters. Doesn’t mean you should use it. There are thousands of VPN servers in the 5 eyes countries. It does not make sense at all if you use VPN for privacy and then pick a 5/9/18 eyes country. Just like that using NL for P2P is the worst choice. You are even better of just using a proxy for Switzerland.
