I’ve used the tpPLC app and it says I should be getting around 150mbps internet speed which is around what I get normally with my internet, but when I do a speed test I get like 15mbps. Help?
Sounds like you are using the 2.4Ghz Wifi connection.
Unfortunately Wifi speeds can be affected by any number of factors, so there are no guarantees for steady bandwidth unless you can use a hardwired Ethernet connection from your device directly to the Wifi Router.
If you are forced to use a wireless/Wifi connection, then you will have to do some troubleshooting to try and make the Wifi work as well as possible.
This will start by using a Wifi network analyzing app like:
And then you can determine which channels are the least busy in your location, then you can manually set your router to use one of those channels.
Just beware that for the 2.4Ghz Wifi, only the channels 1, 6 or 11 are actually usable.
Hi! Since you referenced the tpPLC app, is it safe to assume you’re referring to a Powerline networking product?
If so, Powerline connectivity and data transfer rates will vary due to network environment variables including, but not limited to: distance between adapters, network traffic, noise on electrical wires, building material and construction, quality of electrical installation and other adverse conditions.
First, please ensure both Powerline adapters are plugged directly into wall outlets - no surge protectors or power strips, as these will directly interfere with the connection. We recommend following the suggestions outlined in our FAQ here.
